Thread: 18650 P60 Drop-in That Beats LX2

    Default 18650 P60 Drop-in That Beats LX2

I've got a couple of Surefire lights (LX2 and 6PX Tactical) along with an Oveready 9P with the V3 Triple. I'm looking for a P60 drop-in that has significantly more throw than the LX2 (and the upcoming LX2 Ultra), that can go in Oveready's new ODL, powered by a single 18650. I've yet to hear of such a drop-in, but it's likely I'm missing something. Anyone? Thanks!

Until the new Lx2 ultra comes out, not sure what it'll take to beat it.
Saablasters Deft EDC would beat it, that's in sort of a p60 format (host was a p60 host when he starts)
there are aspheric lenses for p60 format, in the custom modified section. I think there's only a few left

I don't think there's a drop-in as such, but saablaster, who does the deft edc, has been known to modify surefire hosts to perform similar to the DEFC EDC's, like this one:

    Here's the dropin I speak of. http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/...eric-Lens-Kits

With the ez900 dropin VinhNyugen makes, mingled with the 27.2mm aspheric lens is a great set up for the size.

Thanks guys. Those links (other than the C2 with the custom DEFT set-up) are for lenses. I wouldn't know what to do with them (how to install them) or what other drop-in to get to go with them.

So there's really no out-the-box P60 drop-in that can compete with the LX2 for throw?

I LOVE my LX2. I'm either going to get the LX2 Ultra when it comes out, or Oveready's new ODL. But in order for me to get the ODL I'd want it to throw further than the LX2.

If you love the LX2, than you like TIR lenses and probably wouldn't like aspherical beam patterns anyway. there used to be a few TIR p60 dropins but aside from Nailbender I don't think anyone's still making them

    The optic Nailbender uses looks like this;

Ok, cool...thanks. So will Nailbender's drop-ins throw as far as the LX2?

Edit: Realizing he's got a bunch of them and I know very little about the different emitter types. Can you recommend a configuration with the brightest and farthest throw?

For that you'll have to ask Nailbender, tell him your preferences like battery and modes. I'm not actually into throw lights anymore. An HDS 120 hi cri has all the throw I need

Let us know what he recommends. I bet it has something to do with an XR-E driven at 1.4A. Perhaps R2 WG. Smooth reflector.

I got one of the last DEFT EDC+ and the thing throws really far, no spill just a mega thrower, he says it will throw 72K but I have no way to test that. I will take his word for it because I can light up stuff all way down my street, I would say 1000ft isn't hard to hit with street lights.

I took it to Honolulu with me and I stayed downtown in a condo building on the 8th floor, I was lighting up windows about 30 stories up in a high-rise a block or two away from me from the balcony, don't also forget about all the light pollution.

I accidentally knocked the dome of a low voltage dereelight xpg pill, now it compares quite well with the lx2. The optic still edges it out for beam quality but, the dedomed xpg is very spotty. As in nice narrow beam without a distractingly bright side spill. And I can still use an AA in an emergency!

I sent him a PM several days ago, but haven't heard back yet unfortunately.
