Thread: Pep Boys has switched to Philips bulbs instead of Sylvania

Default Pep Boys has switched to Philips bulbs instead of Sylvania

Yay now we have one less chain pushing those stupid Sylvania Silverstar garbage! They carry the whole line from standard to Xtreme Power. As expected, their prices are a bit high.
$50 for a pair XTP (they are also sold individually which I've never seen)
$35 for one HIR2/9012 bulb (ouch!)
$22 for one HIR1/9011 bulb (which isn't that bad)

How are Philips sealed beams? Are they any better than Sylvania's?

Philips buys their sealed beams from one of the others…I think GE. But they don't buy the GE Night Hawk sealed beams, which really are the only ones to consider using.

    Cool.

I still might mail-order from Candlepowerstore; they've been a solid source forever.

Maybe this is reginal thing. The Pep Boys near me is still selling Sylvania (as is everone else...must be the Sylvania cartel). As to Philips, there's a website named after a major South American river that sells them for less than Candlepower.

Strange, xingu.com doesn't seem to be live now

I can't call the river and chat about bulbs though.
There's more to retailing than just selling stuff...

There is a lot of Counterfeit stuff on Amazon now, do not buy from anyone but Amazon itself, not a seller on Amazon. Even Amazon can unknowingly sell some fakes in some instances. "CAVEAT EMPTOR" (buyer beware).
At a minimum, I have seen Amazon use a photo of a fake (this is fact) Philips D1S HID bulb,
The product they shipped may have been real. Kind of stupid to use a Photo from an unauthentic (unproven) source.

This is a counterfeit Philips D1S bulb Photo, the label is absolutely (100%) a fake Philips bulb. This is an Amazon (itself) sold product. At that price, from Amazon, it is also more suspect.

I'm in New Jersey. The switchover is very recent, probably June 2012.
The River's prices are great, and I shop there a lot. For those who prefer to buy locally, it's nice to have someone leave the Sylvania cartel! NAPA carries Wagner products (many of which are rebranded Philips)

Too bad Walmart stopped carrying GE Nighthawk!
