Check out the offerings from 4sevens, great lights at a great price.
Also, check out Goinggear, batteryjunction and lighthound. They have a great selection and you can compare features and price.

What battery type are you wanting to use?

It would be good to know what you are planning to use it for. If it is just camping, you will not need such a powerful flashlight. In fact, a headlamp might be the best thing for you to get to use around camp. For hiking, you will want a more powerful flashlight. But again, a headlamp will probably be better than a flashlight. I have found that when both camping and hiking, it is nice to have both hands free rather than having to swap the light to different hands or try to hold in my mouth or in my armpit (but no in the reverse order)

For a headlamp, you can look at Zebralight, which makes some decent headlamps which could easily double as angle-headed flashlights.

I have purchased from batteryjunction and 4sevens for years and have never had a bad experience. The others are well respected here as well. Join over at the marketplace and in the good deals section, you can get access to discount codes of some vendors. They also have a WTS area where you can find great deals from other CPFers!

Personally for my camping and hunting I want less light over more. I use one of several headlamps, usually on the lower setting. Then I use my AAA Preon II on lower settings 90% of the time with the occasional use of the over 100 lumens. The reason for this is that the brighter the light the more reflection I find off the surrounding vegitation actually making it harder to see with the high settings than the lower. Of course these days, I am past that the need for bigger and brighter just because it is there. I wen tthrough the whole big bad bright light phase for fun and showing off, but that got old and nowdays I am happy with lower lights and longer runtimes, more utlity than flash.

This is just me. I find that even my Streamlight Stylus Pro thorws more than enough light for 90% of my uses.

If your going camping with friends and having a few beers around a camp fire you really don't need or want a headlamp. Get a cool looking bright light to show off with one or two low modes for actual use. My camping light is a bored surefire 6P with a nailbender floody dropin with two modes. I use high to show off and low when bumping around the tent or walking around.

For me and I suspect most, my camping flashlight revolves more around fun and less around function therefore look for a light that provides both. The other thing I recommend is bring a backup, lighting up a forest is great but if that light or battery fails, not having any light in the woods sucks.

Just came back from 4 days camping with my new flashlights purchased with recommendations from this forum. I was using a 4Sevens Quark AA2 Tactical and a EaglTac G25c2. The EagleTac G25c2 was a great all around light. Just a little large to fit in your pocket.

    Here is what I learned:

    1. Wide range of adjustable lumes. Nightlight for inside the tent, various brightnesses outside walking around, long-throw and/or flood for illuminating the entire campsite to count the deer that are eating the garbage.

    2. Neutral wite. There is another thread. I like my neutral white compare to others with the cool white. Personal preference

    3. Small enough to fit in your pocket.

    4. I did NOT like the tactical flashlight with only two setting. I could access more, but wanted all settings available easily. Had no need for the strobe functions.

Hey, man, I am also new here, so I don't have any light to recomand, as there are other experts here.
But for me, I do alot of camping, and hiking.
You wouldn't want to use a very very bright light as your primary light. some said the plants refect the lights
so it makes your vision unclear, but I found it's Because of your pupli's dilation... the brighter the light, the
more unconfortable for your eyes to see your very dark surounding. and your vision would be very limited.

So most of the time, I have 3 lights with me. I uses one as backup. And my primary usually have high/low, and
I use low most of the time. And when I wanted to see something around me further away, I will use high, or the light
in my pocket. That way your eyes are more comfortable as your surounding's light is more close to your flash light's light.
and you can actually see more clear when you switch to high. Because of your pupli doesn't dilate as much as you are in low
    light most of the time.

Anyway, that is just my experiencses, I found using HID all the way, would just blind me more of my surounding compare to
    a low light.

For headlamps, it's indeed very good for camping, but I have concerns of blinding/flasing/causing unconfortable to
friends/teamates when you look at them... any experts have solutions?

If you are worried about blinding others, Zebralight offers a diffuser film option for many of their lights. (model numbers ending in "f")
