Hey everyone,
If you aren't aware, there are 3-4 MAJOR fires in our San Diego county. One in the Camp Pendleton area, Riverside, Chula Vista, and Ramona areas.
The fires are creating very hazardous air conditions and driving conditions. about 2-3 major freeway outlets have been shutdown and i was just redirected from a closed freeway because a small engine aircraft that crash landed on the north bound 163 freeway, and also shuting down the south bound as well. Some major flights have been delayed and/or cancelled and airports in the Miramar area have been shutdown completely. The air is thick with ash and the city looks like it has been covered in a winter fog in some areas. The sky is SO brown, that car headlights look more like HID lights in contrast to the orange/brown hue that has been cast over our city. It's scary lookin'....
So far, over 90,000 acres have burned in the Ramona area, and thousands more in the other areas that have been spotted with fires in the county. i think 8 people have died, many counties have been evacuated already and HUNDREDS of homes have been destroyed. Houses in the Rancho San Diego area are threatened. If anyone is familiar with that area, it is one of the richest communities in the country with houses around 2-3 million. There are also houses in the Eastlake community that are being threatened and are on the virge of being evacuated as well. I have many friends that have moved out there because of the nicer community and larger houses. Unfortunately, if the fire reaches them...they'll be losing a half-million dollar house.
My house is far from any fires....but considering the unusually hot, dry, and windy conditions we've been having (Santa Ana), anything can happen. The state is going to declare a local state of emergency, so hopefully we will be getting more help soon. We need more air support that anything else because of the immensity of the situation, but if worse comes to worse, we may be getting some federal help as well.
I will try to take some photos from my area just to show you the sky, the smoke billowing from local mountains, and the ash that is on our street, cars, and anything exposed to air. My clothes smell like i've just returned from a smoke filled camping trip.
Wish us luck, send out your prayers to those that might lose everthing, and also pray for the firefighters and local law enforcement that are trying there best and putting there life on the line trying to keep us safe.
