    Which bulb/LEDs does it use?

That would also make a MONSTER bike light for wooded trail riding at night......... (:

    12000 lumen from U2s on 12v? Are you running 12 U2s in 4S3P @ 12Amp?

Not including any losses, wouldn't it only need to be around 9A? 3 12V sets at 3A each is 9A. That would roughly be 1000 lumens per emitter, if there are 12 total.

Also, do floody lights do well under water? I suppose if it's 12,000 lumens, it doesn't have much choice but to do well...

Sorry meant 3s4p :-) It would probably be too bright over here in the UK, you'd get tons of back scatter, in perfectly clear water it might do ok though.
I can't see that 12 emitters would fit in that head though, judging from the cable and eo connector sizes, would love to be wrong though

    Methinks a hoax

Does it need to be submersed to be effective sinking the heat from 12000 lumens?
I know the big bridgelux array I use thats around that lumen output would fry in that.

Lon, I have built an 8XML module and no, I would not run it out of the water. It heats up in a matter of seconds.

Might be 12S1P with boost driver (e.g. TaskLED HBFlex can do 12 XM-L's at 3A fairly easily)

He said he's running on 12v though, wouldn't he need at least 48v @3A for 12s1P

You would not be able to do 12S
"Input operates from 7V to 24V (do NOT use more than 5 li-ion cells). Being a boost converter, input voltage must be less than output voltage - see the HBFlex technical section (manual) for specific information."

A single photo and a few specs sure has generated a lot of speculation. Why don't we let 'joachimk' tell us a bit more about his torch.

    How about it mate?

It says "input", and that guy is running off 12V. Emitter array configured in 12S is output not input, and for that that driver 12S of XM-L's is perfectly fine.

There is no information provided about how many LEDs and in what configuration, which is why I am hoping for more information.

A BFlex would work with these specs (12XM-Ls in series driven at full power).

LOL, I know what one is thanks Didn't realise the HBFlex could do 48V from 12 @3A, pretty impressive. Wouldn't this cause problems with Li-Ion or Li-Po batteries, especially protected ones?

    speculation, speculation .... :-)

    how does it work

there are 3 types of light that i make
    1 = +/-9000 lummen cree T6 running @ 9A 3S3P (the one that are for sale)
type 2 (prototype) custom build pcb (printed circuit board) 12 cree U2 in S @3A (to mutch light and heat)
type 3 3s4p =12 cree u2 leds running @ 9A but boosting first the power from 12 to 20v ( to mutch elektronics)
but i don't like the color of the U2 en switching to T6
wil post pics ;-) but fist do some cavediving

    sorry for my bad english

    High quality LiPo's discharge at 50C without a problem, for e.g. 11.1V 10Ah LiPo that'd be 500 amps.
