Thread: Longest runtime 1xAA and 1xAAA flooder and thrower.

  1. #1

Default Longest runtime 1xAA and 1xAAA flooder and thrower.

Is there anything out there, in 1xAA or 1xAAA configurations, with tremendous runtimes (my ZL H502 is kind of amazing in that regard)? I'm not looking for an all-around flashlight but for the best two specialists (thrower and flooder).

    Thanks in advance.

With AAAs you aren't going to get amazing runtimes, but the preon p0 is pure flood... Like, amazingly floody.

for a flood, single AA light, the H502 is the king for lumens/runtimes

for throw on a single AA... i have no idea

Quarks, along with ZLs, are going to have the longest runtimes on a AA. While you can't beat the hands-free versatility of the ZL H series, the Quarks are more versatile in terms of power source. Lego-able bodies allowing you to use various battery configs, and the ability to run Li-ions in a AA light. (although the SC80 is also good)

You can config a floody, balanced, or throw light using the low voltage heads XML, R5, or AA Turbo models, respectively (some will need an optional 1xAA body though).

ZL makes awesome lights, but I buy more 4Sevens stuff due to the better warranty and CS.

ThruNite Ti Firefly is a 1xAAA light with a 0.04 lm mode, should last at least a week on a lithium primary. If low low modes are your thing, it's a good backup/keychain light. And it's dirt-cheap.

Excuse my ignorance but, would you mind explaining this a bit further? It sounds like a dream come true.

These are three different models of the Quark line. You pick whether you want a floody, throwy or in between light, and then Lego it for your battery preference. In general, the smaller the emitter and larger/deeper the head, the more throw the light will have. (note, none of these be a pure flood like your ZL502)

Most throw: Quark Turbo AA2 (QB2A) - large/deep head, small R5 emitter. Only comes in 2xAA so you need an optional 1xAA body.

Medium throw/flood: Quark Pro AA (QPA) - small head, small R5 emitter. This comes in 1xAA.

Most flood: Quark AA2 X (QP2A-X) - small head, large XML emitter. This only comes in 2xAA so you need an optional 1xAA body.

On 1xAA Alkaline, NiMH, or Lithium primary, they'll all put out around 100-115 lumens - However, I have a ZL H51w which states 172 lumens, but it looks the same as these Quarks to me (ceiling bounce test).

Thank you very much! I guess I'm going the Lego route. :-)
