Hi from Australia.
This is my first post in what looks to be a very comprehensive forum. I am amazed at how many options consumers have these days.
I am seeking suggestions for a new dive light based on my specific requirements. I have spent a few hours using the search option however after reading 100's of posts containing one line questions such as "which dive light is best" or "I want the brightest dive light available for <$10" posts my frustrations levels are getting a little too high for a Friday afternoon
99% of my dives are sub 30m depths usually at night in a mixture of murky/silty conditions where visability could be anywhere between 0 - 10m, so I am after something universal. Given my basic knowlege on lights I am better at explaining what I need rather than specific specs so I have detailed below. Please excuse if the terms I use are not correct
Primary or secondary light? - It will be primary however from looking at what's around it could fit either catergory. A lot of my dives are under ships/wharf's etc so the ability to put in bc pocket or out of the way from lines or cables is important. EG: not looking at something huge or with separate battery pack.
Price range? - $100-$200
Batteries - Something that is rechargable or takes C or D type off the shelf batteries.
Battery life - Would prefer a minimum of 2-3 hrs of life before charge or replacement.
Casing - Ideally would like to stay away from aluminium. Preferred option would be plastic (or equilivent) with rubber shock proof around it. Working in tight spots they tend to get banged around.
Light beam - I would prefer it to have 2 settings being wide or tight beam. If not something tight is better.
Size - No longer than 20-25cm. Nothing with a diameter greater than a coke can.
Settings - 2 settings (high-low) would be nice.
This above might sound fussy, but really I am just after a good quality but basic light that can take a knock or two, puts out great light and that can be slipped out of the way if needed.
Suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.
