I doubt that even at 2.4w, you'll get .6 amps out of those panels. Most of the 10w foldable/rollable panels are rated for only .6 amps, on a perfect day in the laboratory.

so far, in direct sun light, volts are good, amps are ermm, 230-300mah, but come a slight cloud and 2 volts dead.

Presumably you are trying to charge a battery(s)? What kind of batteries, and what charge rate are you looking for? A good amount of voltage headroom is required for charging a battery, and usually there is a diode drop to account for also. Four volts (8 x 0.5V) isn't going to get there for lithium type batteries. I like the higher voltage (5.5-6.0 Voc) of the mini panels, like from Seed Studio. They still have the same output problems when a cloud comes over, but you don't have to string so many cells together to get the voltage.
