New Cree XP-G2 P60 Replacement Modules

This thread is for XP-G2 P60 modules. I decided to start a new thread for these new emitters from Cree since my regular P60 thread is a bit crowded. At this time I will only have Coolwhite.

I will be using a new XP-G reflector from a new manufacturer I have been using. These Lop and smooth are made for XP-G's type emitters. These are not the small hole design I have been using in my regular P60 thread. i have been using the new lop for all the nichia's I have been building and members have loved them. The lop finish is perfect in quality and makes a totally smooth ring free beam. The emitter hole is built for XP-G type emitters and they just work great.

For those that have not read up on these, they are brighter than the XP-G and should have much better throw. The XP-G has a 125 degree beam angle and the new XP-G2 will have a 115 degree beam angle much like the XP-E but much brighter. There are rumors of 400 lumens at 1.4 amps but we will have to see if this is true but several have quoted this. Since these run at 1.4 amps give or take that means we will have a good throwing emitter with pretty darn good runtimes.

I will get some pictures of the new emitter in the new reflector tomorrow as I get a few built. I will also post OTF lumens as soon as I get some built.

I hope in the near future to get some neutrals but at this time they are coolwhite only. I have found some neutrals and warms but the vendor will not bread any 1000 pc reels since they are so new and that is a few too many.

Prices will be the same as a regular XP-G so that means $35 a module shipping in the US is included.

Potting is included in the price

For International shipping the rates are as follows. Int 1st class is a added $12and Int priority mail is $23.95

ALL EMITTERS NOW MOUNTED ON DIRECT BOND COPPER SINKPADS.

Available voltages and levels and tints are below.

XP-G2 S2 flux 2B tint 6000k
XP-G2 R5 flux 3D tint 5000k
XP-G2 R4 flux 5B4 tint 4000k

XP-G2 R2 flux 7B4 tint 3100k warm white
XP-G2 Q2 7C1 tint 3000k warm white 90CRI

2.8-6 volts 1.4 amps
1 level
3 levels * low, med, high *
3 levels * med, high , strobe* 1.5 amps only
5 levels *low, med, high, strobe, SOS*

with these 6 volt drivers I can add resistors to raise the amperage to 1.7 amps if wanted, that said remember the more amperage the more heat and the less runtime.

Hi

High is 100% / med is 30% / low is 5%

that puts med at about 400ma and low is about 70ma

Dave

so in theory low would last over 48 hours with a 3400mah panasonic cell and medium would last 8.5 hrs

good form

Re: XP-G2 / P60 STYLE MODULES

to Dave or anyone that knows.

For my dive light with it's small reflector I bought your XM-L (U2 bin) drop-in to get the greatest amount of throw. Apparently your module is driven at 100% so 3 amps. Is this the best bang for my buck or are there any advantages regarding the beam with this new LED? I realize there would be a significant lumen output drop with the XP-G2 vs. your XM-L.

You mentioned Viewing angle. The XP-G2 is 115° and the XM-L is at 125°.
I wonder if the XP-G2 could throw better than your U2 XM-L that I purchased?

Hi

That is correct, switch resistance and a few other things will change runtimes slightly but your figures will be quite close.

Hi

While it is a tighter beam angle and while some disagree with my thinking I still believe that raw power has alot to do with throw. If we could push the XP-G2 at 750-800 lumens like a XML then I would say yes but at half the lumens and what you are using it for I have trouble seeing it giving you more distance.

Now if you had found you did not need as much light that you now have then having twice the runtime might be advantageous.

Just my thoughts.

Re: XP-G2 / P60 STYLE MODULES

By any chance would it be possible lower the amperage?

Looking for a drop-in around the 200-250 lumen mark
