You can fill out and post this checklist to narrow down your options and you should get some good recommendations:

For me, in order for a flashlight to be "good"

-it needs to be regulated, so that it keeps a constant brightness
-it needs to have a newer LED emitter (XP-G R5; XM-L)
-it needs to run for a long time
-it needs to be free of defects
-it needs to have multiple brightness levels
If you ask me what light to buy, I have an uncontrollable urge to say "Fenix"

For me, I love reading reviews and decide on what to buy from those.

As for a good light to start with, what price and how will you be using it?

Very nice answers, this is where I can feel the "friendliest and largest community"
I'll second the checklist. A good light may be the one that fit your needs the most. This is influenced by the type of battery that it's running on, the size (how and where to carry, how often you're going to use it (is it going to be buried in your trunk for years before you need it...), are you going to use it for to look at something closer vs. I want to illuminate my whole neighbourship and so on.
And there's good prediction probability that it won't be one...

Guten abend! You are right! It won't be just one. You need several EDCs, some throwers, some floodlights, some scratched-up old lights to work on the car. And... there will be more!
