Question Recommend me a budget flashlight with long low light AA batt life? (UK)

    Hi folks!*

I'm needing 2 flashlights with the following requirements :

My mother : emergency situations when the power goes out where she lives. *Needs to be a 'standard' battery format like AA/AAA and have good low light battery life as she usually spends her time reading while the power is out. *Also needs to have a good light for general wandering around trying to do stuff. *No requirement for a strobe or clip although clip may be a useful addition. *She has said that she DOES NOT want one with a blue tinged light.

Myself : solely for work use and wouldn't get used for more than a couple of mins total each day. *Needed for doing walk-round checks on trucks & trailers at night in a pitch black yard and also for shining in the back of 45ft trailers to see if they're empty so perhaps something with a decent throw would be useful here. *Would prefer standard AA power as I already have a charger for those, but I'm open to suggestions if there are advantages to using other battery types.

Budget is no more than £20/each incl shipping costs (~ $31) and I would prefer to source from the UK although not essential.

I did see a few reviews of the Balder SE-1 and battery life seems reasonable there but it's a bit out of my price range at £24 here in the UK ($38). *The other one I looked at was the Xeno E03 but low light batt life seems to be extremely poor according to the reviews and there seems to be huge amounts of flood but not much throw, at least on AAs anyway.

Anything else I should be considering, folks?

    Thanks.*

The Thrunite TI might be the best simple 1 AAA light. Twist for on, and twist more for more output. I'm not sure what you consider blue though. Are you looking for a light that has a warm beam (like an incan) or just a light that doesn't have the blue beam of most 5mm LED lights?

The lumintop worm is great too...I think it has about 10 hours on low?

    A few to consider:
Fenix E11, right on your budget and has a lovely 'white' beam, no tendency towards cool. Low might be too bright for you but it will run for 8 hours. Throws well for single AA.
Jetbeam BA10, good solid light but a bit on the cool side. Another good thrower for its sixe.
Fenix E05, super little light but only one mode and runs for about 3 hours on a single AAA. Another one with a very 'white' beam. Doesn't really throw.

Have a read on the forums about the Thrunite, it has some known problems with mode switching also might be a bit 'blue' for your requirements and possibly not throwy enough.

Consider buying from abroad, Hong Kong dealers are generally fine to deal with and lights can cost a third less than UK dealers. Problem is that delivery can take 3 weeks!

I would recommend the Thrunite T10, has 3 modes, High, Low and Moon(Ultra low). Low mode is perfect for general use and moon mode is for extreme runtime.

I have a Fenix LD15 and like it. Single AA, 8 lumens for 40 hours, or 117 lumens for 1.5 hours. Twisty so it's going to be very reliable.

I have an LD01 that is pretty nice. Thrunite will give you a free ti with a t10 purchase. I have one on order and hope it will get here soon!

I feel like an evangelist because I'm always recommending this light or its bigger 2AA brother, but a fantastic AA is the Xeno E03 ($35us). It has 3 simple to use modes and the lowest at 20 lumens (20 hours on 1 AA) is perfect to read by. It is available in cool, neutral, or warm tint, has a buttery smooth and floody beam (perfect for indoors), and is ideal for a power outage, as it tail stands and for $6 you can get a really nice wand diffuser that turns the little thing into a lantern - even better for over-the-shoulder book reading. The thing looks great too with perfect ergonomics and a really cool glowinthedark clicky and o-ring in the bezel that glows long after you shut it off. AAA might be too small for a non flashaholic - AA is perfect for the general user. Yup, I REALLY like this light.

My Thrunite T10 and Ti showed up this morning. Inititial impressions are very positive! The LD01 clip fits better on the ti than it does on the LD01. I just need to make or find a pocket clip for the T10
