dome or die size?

Was checking specs for the new XPG 2 and also the XPE 2. Both now have the same dome size but their die size is still a bit different.
Is it dome size or die size that determines the beam depth? Looking to build helmet light with good throw.
Both domes in XPE 2 and XPG 2 are same size now.
XPE 2 die is 1mm, similar to old XRE die(.9mm), both are great throwers. XPG die is a little bigger at about 1.3mm.
Viewing angle is now the same, both XPE 2 and XPG 2 are 115*.
So maybe I've answered my own question, Am I missing something?

Apparent source size is key in optics. The larger die generally appears as a larger source to your secondary optic (Be it an optic or reflector) and so has less throw. The XP-G2 innovation is extracting more light in a smaller dome, giving higher lux readings in flashlights and higher lumen readings overall.
