Using 123A's in Gen3 night vision?

I have a python night vision scope, I just use it as a monocular. I have it for sale elsewhere and am getting a lot of tire kickers, so I would love to be able to use a protected rechargeable cell in it for this purpose, However, I do not want to damage the electronics..
I can post specs on the unit if it helps anyone come up with a conclusion..

Most of the time it is safe to use LiPo rechargeables which are 3.2v fresh off the charger. Most often the problems arise when folks use lithium ion rechargeables which are 4.2v off the charger.
