They are halogen and putoff way too much heat for my taste. Is there an option to convert these toanything else? CFL, LED? Will something like this work?
This is probably not what you want to hear, but just thought I would mention... The filament inside the halogen versions of these bulbs is a slightly higher temperature. Many people mistakenly think this means they give off more heat, quite the opposite is the case. A higher temperature filament means more light, and a bit less power required to make that light, so less heat given off overall. The difference is not extremely huge, though.

Why don't you just switch out some of your bulbs with LED, not all of them? This can have several potential advantages over either option alone. I think your food will look more appetizing if you leave at least a few halogen bulbs in there. Plus I doubt that LED candelabra alone is going to be able to match the light output.

Thanks for the reply.

My question is HOW do I replace with LED or even CFL? I cannot find a base type that will accommodate a different fixture.

I looked around a few places for direct LED drop-ins. All I found was some China manufacturers. I would be concerned about flicker with an unknown bulb.

The adapter should work - I'm concerned that the adapter plus the candelabra bulb (which typically has a high "filament") will put the light source too high above the socket.

You might want to contact these guys. You can suggest that they consider carrying a product at the bottom of the page.

Also, you might consider a lower wattage.

Or a dimmer.

It appears there is a 12V E11 base LED bulb out there... not sure if it's sensible to convert 120V to 12V, and whether there would ever be a payoff by the time you buy everything needed plus the bulbs.

Hi,

I have a fixture in my dining room that takes about 10 75Q/CL/120V mini candelabra bulbs. They are halogen and put off way too much heat for my taste. Is there an option to convert these to anything else? CFL, LED? Will something like this work?

Thank you so much! Do you think there is a CFL or florescent option for me? That searching was amazing!!!!!!

Another possible option... if you go all LED candelabra, you might drape your lamp fixture in red LED Christmas lights also. Not only will it look more decorative, it will also raise the overall CRI, and add a little more light, since LED candelabra retrofits tend to have rather low light outputs. Just make sure you find LED Christmas lights that are free of flicker.

Is this like your mixing blue leds with halogen idea that does not raise CRI either?

Thanks for noting my efforts. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend CFL's. I do not believe they are a good solution.

This is just my opinion, but the light from most "warm white" CFLs is just hideous. If you want yellowish light color, I think it would be better to go with LED than CFL.

Oh god yes you must have christmas lights that don't flicker if you are using them for lighting! If you use cheap LED strings that you get from walmart or some hardware store, it'll massacre your eyes!! :sick2:

Edit: just noticed this is an old thread :E oh well
