Recently purchased a Fenix E01 with a Nichia GS LED. I compared it my Aeon flashlight, which has a top binned Cree LED. Both lights are ~10 lumens. The E01 (Nichia GS LED) has a blue/purple hotspot with a yellow flood periphery. The Aeon (Cree LED) sports a uniformly green tint. The Cree has (IMO) a slightly better tint. However when I observed how things looked under these LEDs (both direct and indirect lighting) I noticed the Nichia has better contrast (clarity). Slight difference, though unmistakable. I ran both LEDs though a prism and noticed the Nichia has a broader spectrum - more elongated on both the red and blue end. Maybe the reason for its improved contrast? So if you can ignore the GS's tint I think it's a slightly better LED, at least at low power. Once diffused using a piece of hockey tape the E01 has a lovely golden tint, and is a great reading light. Good to see they are still improving these LEDs - for a $15.00 light the E01's brightness and runtime very impressive.
