Wonder if anyone has bought and used one of these smaller lanterns -
the UST Pico lantern -

1 W Nichia white LED - 22 hrs @ up to 120 Lumens
3 mode electronic switch - High, Low, Flashing SOS
Compact size with long run time - up to 91 hrs @ 15 lumens
Removable globe provides forward area light
Rubberized housing enhances impact resistance

It is the little brother of the larger 300 lumen lantern.
Here is a random Youtube demo - of the little Pico version.

Just got this and it won't run on energizer lithiums. Runs fine on alkaline. I was hoping to be able to load with the lithiums and put on a shelf for emergencies and not have to worry about leaking batteries if it sits for years. Too bad, it's a great little light other then that. Tint is a little warmer then the streamlight siege and output on high mode is comparable to the siege at medium

I got one for $7 at the Dilliards After Christmas sale. I run Eneloops in it. Works wonderful. Great little light. The "glow" feature of mine is a bit lame. No, real lame. But the light works great for my applications.

I don't have photos to share with it turned on - but I don't like it.....

With it turned on, as a lantern, sitting on the table in front of you,
you are looking directly at a VERY BRIGHT ring of the LED light... blinding....

If you turn it upside down on the table, again as a lantern,
it's actually better, as you just see the diffused light,
and the VERY BRIGHT ring of LED light is being deflected downward.

This is due to the LED being basically totally exposed under the frosted dome,
for when you unscrew it as a flashlight vs the lantern mode,
and you are looking directly at the exposed LED thru the lantern cylinder case.

gee, I am sorry to hear that you don't like the lantern. I was hoping that it would be good, and as well liked as it's bigger brother.

I typically don't like lanterns because of the glare. You might try to make a cone of wax paper and tape, and place it over the emitter, inside the dome, THAT might offer additional diffusion and make the light more palatable.

A quart, or half gallon plastic milk carton (with the top cut off) and placed over the top of the lantern is helpful to reduce glare, and can be removed when the batteries drain and there is less glare.
