Won a SST-90 Ebay. Need ideas for first build with one. Defiant 3D?

So, As the title says. I won a Luminus SST-90 on eBay. For around 10$ Free shipping. I assume this is a good price.

Now on to the task at hand. I have a spare (Home Depot) Defiant 3D, Similar to the ArmorMax. It has a XML U2 emitter along with a crude driver, It appears to be around 17MM.

Is it possible to run the SST-90 off of 3D? Would I need to switch to a 18650 setup, Or some other Li- chemistry. How about driver choices?

A direct-drive 3 x D nimh setup would work good.

LED came in today. Looks pretty good. XM-L2 u2 Looks tiny compared to it. Mounted on a copper star.

Lapped the heatsink slightly, Not sure if im very happy with it yet. Here is a short test fit of everything.
