Wow! These MT-G2 emitters are a bit floody but dang!

MT-G2%205.jpg

Over 2000 lumens at 3 Amps per this testing shown here!
(Shown, is a 3 Amp, 3 mode buck driver with 2 X 6000mAh 32650 Li-Ion cells - not over driving the emitter)

My personal build is using 5 Amps... (see 5 Amp option below)

Build Details:

* 2D Mag (let me know your color choice)
* MT-G2 6V 5000K emitter on copper sink pad set on custom heatsink as shown
* Copper heatsink option
* 3 Amp, 3 mode buck driver - L,M,H w/memory (see current readings below)
* Or 5 Amp Qlite MT-G2 Zener mod - L,M,H w/memory (see current readings below)
* Aluminum reflector (specify smooth or MOP)
* UCL glass lens
* Fine focus adjustment
* Voltage monitor option

MT-G2 8.jpg

MT-G2 2.jpg

The aluminum reflector is machined to fit the 20mm copper sink pad and heatsink post...

Beam comparison: XML-2 vs MT-G2:

Voltage monitor option:

Mag%20XM-L%20T6%2032.jpg

Battery voltage monitor color code:

Bright blue - Full charge
Cyan - Very good
Green - Good
Yellow/Amber - Low warning
Red - Batteries low

The Spectrum battery voltage monitor will have a short 2 second initialization and some flashing when you first turn on the light. This is normal...

Current readings with 3 Amp driver: (High/medium/low)

Measured at the emitter:
* High - 3200mA's
* Medium - 989mA's
* Low - 185mA's

Measured at the tail: (battery current draw from 2 X 32650 Li-Ion's)
* High - 3300mA's... Estimated run time - About 1.8 hours.
* Medium - 1 Amp... Estimated run time - About 6 hours.
* Low - 200mA's - Estimated run time - About 30 hours.

That's using 6000mAh capacity 32650's...

5 Amp option:

I've got a good option for a 3 mode 5 Amp set up using 2 cells with voltage monitor option! :D

I'm using the Qlite MT-G2 Zener mod driver. For my personal build, I ordered the driver with 5 extra chips for a total of 13 380mA chips giving about 5 Amps... (if you want 11 chips total, it would be about 4 Amps)

As shown in the pictures below, the driver has brass rings soldered on for help with the heat management, and then I used Arctic Alumina thermal adhesive to pot the chips.

Then when installing, I use more Arctic Alumina thermal adhesive to fill all air gaps in the heatsink driver cavity as the driver is 'squeezed it into place'.

Current readings with 5 Amp driver: (High/medium/low)

This is a linear driver, so the current to the emitter is pretty much the same as measured at the tail...

Measured at the emitter:
* High - 4790mA's
* Medium - 1115mA's
* Low - 85mA's

Measured at the tail: (battery current draw from 2 X 32650 Li-Ion's)
* High - 4790mA's... Estimated run time - About 1.25 hours.
* Medium - 1355mA"s... Estimated run time - About 4.4 hours.
* Low - 108mA's - Estimated run time - Over 50 hours.

That's using 6000mAh capacity 32650's..

Note: This emitter at 5 Amps is 30 Watts. You must use common sense with your run times for this build. (in High mode) If it gets too warm in your hand, you will get a sense of the proper duty for your run time...

Pricing for the custom driver and extra work on a 5 Amp build (or 4 Amp) - Add $30

Pricing With Options:

The complete MT-G2 Maglite build will include:

* 2D Maglite host (your choice of color)
* MT-G2 6V 5000K emitter on copper sink pad set on aluminum heatsink
* 3 Amp, 3 mode buck driver - L,M,H w/memory
* Aluminum reflector (specify smooth or MOP)
* UCL glass lens

$189

Options:

* 5 Amp (or 4 Amp) driver option (L,M,H w/memory) - $30
* Copper heatsink option - $28
* Spectrum battery monitor installed - $58 The price of the Spectrum board is over $30 bucks, and my price for the installation as shown, is an additional $23 dollars. (this is actually more time consuming than it's worth to me, but it's so cool, that I'm trying to make it affordable)
* 6000mAh 32650 cells - $24 each (I have protected or non-protected - same price / tail cap mod needed for protected cells)
* WF-188 charger - $29
* Tail cap mod (if using protected cells) - $15

* Shipping will be based on a handling fee plus postage. (send PM for total)

Hope you like it!

P.S. Trusted seller?

You can read any one of my threads to see that I am a trusted seller. For example, in the case of my 2D sized 1000 lumen Maglite flashlight mod, please take a few minutes to read some of the buyer feedback that I have listed here: (to see that I am a trusted seller)

That's badass having the board exposed front and center with the emitter, quality stuff. Good job being quick with offering an MT-G2 Mag :thumbsup:

Hey Jayrob! Great to see you back with another awesome mod! This one looks like another winner! I have a couple variants of your XML mod. Still going strong after a couple years! I may have to grab one of these MTG2 builds now! Keep up the good work!

To anyone contemplating one of Jayrob's builds....He is one of the best guys I've ever dealt with here on CPF! His communication with the buyer is second to none and his work is extremely clean and precise! He's definitely one of the great people who makes our hobby and CPF what it is!

This looks great. I'm interested in seeing how the 5 amp version plays out before I get one from you. Awesome...

I too look forward to seeing the 5 Amp :D

Update: See 5 Amp option in first post now... :D

I like this driver at 5 Amps in a 2 cell build with room for the voltage monitor: (my personal build)
http://www.mtnelectronics.com/opencart/index.php?route=product/product&path=67&product_id=53

A different option is a single mode build with 3 cells:
http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb...A-Buck-Converter-for-SST-50-SST-90&highlight=

That driver is pricey, but good quality. Thick too. So there is not room for the voltage monitor. Non-protected cells will fit a 3D Mag with a tail cap mod. ($15)

Hey Jayrob would something like this work?

http://www.kaidomain.com/product/details.S020121

I also read in the comments that KD can remove the low voltage protection if you want.

I'm going to happily stick with my 3a build for now, just trying to learn and pass along another possible drive option. :D

I was looking at that one too... (thanks for the link)

Might have to try it out in case the others don'e suffice...
