Hello,

I am in need of a new light for cave diving in North Florida but 1000Lm-2000Lm lights can run in the neighborhood of $800.

Is it possible to take a light like the Trustfire 8500 or a similar high lumen LED and equalize the spaces with some sort of non-conductive, non-corrosive liquid so that it could be taken underwater?

I found a video that illustrates the basic concept-it looks like it has been done before with some success (see below).

I'd appreciate any ideas or considerations you all might have. Anyone attempted something similar?

Thanks!

if you search for 'mineral oil' on this forum you will find a few threads that tried this. me personally wouldn't bother as it is such a mess when you need to recharge the batteries.
it may be easier to by a cheap chinese dive light and replace the o-rings with better quality and start from there (swap led or driver etc.)

.....you could try something like this:

....

But unless you already have the trustfire, and are willing to risk trashing it -
(having modded and flooded a few lights over the years i speak from experience ;-) )
these days, its easier and cheaper to buy them... e.g. :

yes it is Possible, in fact I use the trustfire as my main dive light... the problem is it only has a Burn time of 70 mins on a 14 volt pack..
