Is it just a led swap...still retaining the ramping driver?

So is the XPE *still* the best platform for a red LED?

I am kind of amazed, because in general terms, the XPE is about 4 generations behind the curve.

How come there is no red version of the XPG, XML, XHP35, XHP50, etc. etc.??

I mean--Zebralight was using the XPE for its red lights, I don't know, 8 years ago and more.

XPE2 is not so bad. May be 5 years old?
Not many people need a massively bright red LED
So likely not enough demands for Cree to invest perhaps?

You are probably right--not enough demand to make it worth their while.
Still--a better emitter might be more efficient, not just brighter.

I also had not appreciated that the XPE was updated to an XPE-2 model. How much of an improvement is there in the v.2? Looks like maybe 20% for the XPE-2 line as a whole.

(I should say that I care about this because I use a ZL H502r as a rear-blinky on my bicycle. I don't know if I want it any brighter, but longer-lasting is always good. And, hell, brighter too! After all, this is the world of LEDs! We all want brighter, longer-lasting, and newer and better!)

XPE2is very efficient when driven to specs. If you need more output then we can put it in a light with multi emmiters such as the Sorfin.

    Interested.
What do the upgraded optics do?
Is there a possibility of adding the magnet like you can if bought on their web site?
Sometimes we don't get what we pray for. Sometimes we get much more.

I replace the stock optics with Carclo narrow clear for more throw. Tint 4 posts black and diffused the center window to hide wirings below.
D4vn does not include magnets as I know. You can always glue one to the rear.
