They go in place of a 4' F32T8 lamp and work off the existing instant-start T8 ballast unlike most other LED "fluorescent tubes" I've seen which instruct you to remove the ballast and connect line voltage directly to the lampholders. The only other "plug and play" product I know of are the ones by EverLED

These are just a band-aid for those who want to be 'cool'. The best way is to replace the lumenaire. There are some real retrofit options coming on the market for LED conversions, but they will never get close to a new, designed for LED fixture.

I am in danger of sounding like a broken record today:

I dont get replacing T8's with LEDs. T8's are great! Long tubular indirect lamps arent ideal for every installation, but when they are, I think the T8 stuff they have come out with recently has been nailing it. Bright, efficient, a variety of color options, reliable . . . I remember when T8s first came out, the ballasts didnt last for poop. Same with electronic ballasts in general. Now they're amazing!

In areas where we have tube fluorescents and want to keep tube-type lights, we are going T8 all the way.
