M4 Devastator Modification?

Hey all,

I've been browsing the forum and trying to figure out what I need to do, but to no avail. Long story short, I've got an M4 Devastator that I'd like to modify to use rechargeable CR123a's, and I'm not sure how to do it. I'm going to pick up a new LED head, and I guess I'm just looking for what kind of body to use.

Any tips would be great!

Re: M$ Devastator Modification?

I think changing the LED head is about the jist of it.

Just pick a head that can handle the voltage of the rechargables.

Unless you want to use different kinds of batteries, like two 18650's or four 18350's, I'm not sure what other mods you'd actually need.

Re: M$ Devastator Modification?

Check out the new LED tower from Lumens Factory. Voltage range is 3.6V-13V. For rechargeables, you can use 2x17670 Li-ions. If you get the tube bored out, you could go with 2x18650 cells instead. You could also use 3x17500 or 3x18500.

For rechargeable incan setups, see this thread for example as a starter.

Re: M$ Devastator Modification?

With regards to LiIons, two 17670's is the best way to go for an unmodified M4 body (most LED drivers do quite well in this voltage range), but for a light that is to be used heavily I would most defintely spend the $ and get it 18mm-bored for 18650's. Effectively doubling the capacity is just too much of an advantage to be ignored IMO.

You could do this:

2x17670 with Surefire MN15
2x17670 with Malkoff MD60

Basically, anything that will handle 9v will work well with 2x17670 which means you can use the stock host without having to modify anything. This gives you two excellent options - one being incan, the other being LED.
