The old lamp has been replaced with an XM-L2 glued on an 3/8 inch aluminum rod with thermal conducting stuff.

Before assembly.... Note that if you remove the blue sticker around the reflector cup, there are some
words printed/stamped behind "Made in Mexico". Driver is located between the battery case and the
white bottle.

I did a similar conversion to my C-light (3-c cells). I ordered an Cree R5 drop-in module from Deal Extreme.
It came with two springs. I removed the large outer spring.
I machined an aluminum contact flange & press fit it the the lamp back.
I'm still using the standard alcaline c-cells in mine.
