Hi Guys.

I tried searching the forum for more information on this topic but couldn't find quite what i was looking for.
I'd like to find out how adding a filter to a flashlight would affect its beam projection?
what factors do you need to consider when adding a filter to your flashlight?

Looking forward to your input here

Depends on what type of filter you are thinking about. Some filters project various colors, and some are diffuse, whereby a beam is diffused for a broader beam with little or no centeral hotspot.

Did you check this thread out:Changing LED Tint With Filters ?

In my personal experience, a regular colored filter does not affect beam profile in any noticeable way. The throw will go down based on how pronounced the color is and darker colors will lower the throw easily.

Any filter with a haze to it will diffuse the beam profile from slightly up to turn a thrower into a flood light.

Some filter colors can help cut through fog somewhat.

The factors to consider depend on the desired effect. I use very lightly colored filters to turn cool blue flashlights into something that can compare with a high CRI with no more than 30% light/throw loss, pretty much the same as if I changed the emiiter for a high CRI LED.
