Review Lumintop SD20: compact EDC-light, max 900 lumens, 1x18650 or 2xCR123A

We will have a closer look at one of Lumintop's latest releases, the compact SD20. For me, this is the most compact 900-lumen-light I owned until now.

Unboxing:

The SD20 comes in well finished, good looking carton box. Most of the specifications are mentioned on it. I prefer this boxes above blisters, think I'm not the only one…J

First impressions:

The light is real compact for a 1x18650. First thing I noticed, was the "big" side button. The built quality is good, anodizing and lubricating well done. Only the tailcap (the spring) is not that sturdy.

User interface:

As expected with this kind of light. Press and hold for on/off, cycling through the modes by short clicking, double click (only when on) for strobe. You have to press firmly the button, maybe Lumintop has made this to avoid accidentally on when EDC-ing this light. Personally I prefer a lockout mode and a better-functioning button.

Size comparison:

I've compared the SD20 with another 900-lumen-light, the Fenix E35UE. Now you can see how compact the SD20 is!

Beamshots:

SD20 has an orange-peel reflector, so as expected, the beam is a mix of flood than throw. What I noticed is that the tint is (to) blueish. You can see this clear on the wallshots…

First some shots with the SD20 and after that some comparison with the Fenix E35UE.

Conclusion:

SD20 has a lot of output for such a compact light. Finishing is nice, user interface easy. Tint is (to) bluish. Wish it came with a moonlight mode. Hope Lumintop will add a better (side) button, those is hard to press. On the other way, it prevents against accidentally turn-on. Overall, a nice EDC!
