Here are another interesting addition to your favorite Surefire M6 which are available in very limited quantity.
A battery holder which takes pair of 18650 connected in series for 7.4 volt operation.
These Chinese battery holders are modified to fit and work in your M6 flashlight for free lumens operation.

Basicaly, you convert your $urefire M6 to 2x18650 which can be loaded from tail side while using stock tail cap.
No more primary batteries to throw away. Low cost operation and you can keep your original holder intact.
Any 18650 with up to 18.75mm battery diameter and 70mm long will fit. You can also use 2 IMR cells.

Simply install your 18650 cells (negative to spring connector) then insert battery holder with brass contact to head side and stainless steel washer to tail cap side.
Why keep paying high $$$ for primary batteries while rechargeable option cost much less in long term.

Using pair of latest 3400mAh batteries, will have pretty much same voltage under load but with more run time and less operation cost compare to 3S/2P CR123 primary.
Remember, cost of 6 primary batteries is almost same as each rechargeable 18650 which can be recharge over and over.
Please use same brand, same chemistry, same capacity, equally and correctly recharged healthy cells.
I have tested these holders for 5.5 Amps without problem.
I also tested MN20 with protected cells which is excellent choice. Using protected cells with MN21 may need several click.

What you will get here is just the battery holder. No flashlight head, No flashlight body, No flashlight tail cap, No batteries and No charger.

For LED M6, using good quality 3400mAh 18650 will provide longest run.
For incand MN20 M6, using good quality 3400~3600mAh 18650 will provide longest run.
For incand MN21 M6, using good quality 26500 will provide longest run.

Yes, physically will fit but for good contacts you will need to:
1- Extract positive terminal (little conical spring) of M*g "D" switch or use slightly longer spring or even magnet.
2- Slightly bend smaller end on tail spring to make it even smaller.

· MN15 with pair of protected 18650. IMR 18650 will overdrive this bulb.
· MN16 with pair of protected 18650. IMR 18650 will severely overdrive this bulb.
· MN20 with pair of protected 18650. IMR 18650 will slightly overdrive this bulb.
· MN21 Protected 18650 won't power and IMR 18650 will severely overdrive this bulb.
· Osram 64250 with pair of protected 18650. IMR 18650 will severely overdrive this bulb.
· WA 1111 with pair of protected 18650. IMR 18650 will severely overdrive this bulb.
· Philips 5761 Protected 18650 won't power and IMR 18650 will severely overdrive this bulb.
Please note:
Above statement is based on AW's or Everedy protected 18650 which are tested.
Some other protected cells may or may not work.

What is the absolute best battery(s) that are rechargeable that will give the best readability and possibly the longest tactical run time.. 17670, 14670, or the 18650 better? because i know you had mods for the other 2 types for the M6LT Guardian.

typically 18650's will have more capacity; they're bigger than the other 2.
They're also the most refined of the 3 you have mentioned.
best battery would probably be subjective to the user.
once you go into battery chemistry, you'll have variable preferences.

IMR (4.2V) is generally more favored for high drain applications.
Li-NiCo is typically higher in capacitance (4.2V)
A lot of guys here seem to like AW.
