Hello everyone. Need help getting a new light since i haven't purchase a flashlight in years since getting my tk11 r5 a while back. I am looking to replace that light this year before spring hits. What is the best, brightest, built like a tank flashlight out there today? My budget is 200 dollars and looking for lights that takes only 18650 with 1000 lumens max. (White/cool beam preferred)

Greatly appreciate any feedbacks.

Just curious why you set a max lumens?

189.99 pretty good price tag. I'm getting one minus that charger kit.

+1 on the 18650 Hound Dog. But you can get it for less than 189.99 (with the charger and battery) at Malkoff Devices website. Not sure where you found the 189.99 price.

I just received my (neutral version) HD 18650 a couple of weeks ago, and it's immediately become my favorite. You'll want a Wild Cat after that . . .

Okay..I'm sticking and giving this malkoff a try. My setup will be the 18650 hound dog head with the md3 body and tail cap.

MD3 body? The 18650 Hound Dog won't accept more than 6 volts, so two 18500s is a no-no. You can run an 18650 with a spacer if you want, though I haven't heard of anybody doing it.

If you like the MD3 body length, then the standard Hound Dog is the one to get. They run in full regulation (steady output) till the head sees 5.5 volts, then it shuts off. The 18650 version runs in direct drive for most of the battery life and slowly dims, though I can't detect it without a light meter. I run mine from two 18500s on an MD3 as the standard setup.

What?...I thought the website stated that you can use the md3 body on the hound dog?.. am I missing something here?.. double checking

There are two different current Hound Dog head designs. One has a max input of 6 volts, and is intended to be used with a single 18650 in an MD2 body. The other one has a voltage range between 5.5 and 12 volts, and is intended for three or four CR123s or two Li-Ions.

Here they are side by side, with 18650 version on the right.
