As I am retired and on a somewhat fixed income. I like to justify many of my more expensive purchases that are, "I just have to have even if I don't really need it".I decided to give up going to the casino buffet four times and saved enough money to purchase my P-12.I now have a nice flashlight and no weight gain. For my next purchase I will give up fast food for awhile. If I keep this up I will be a lean, mean, machine with a lot of nice flashlights.

Excellent plan! :twothumbs

A purchase shouldn't always be about what we need. Sometimes what we want, is something we need, only because we want it, and that's OK!

It's more interesting not to mention healthier for you than expensive hookers, drugs, and booze. :)

Five words that rationalize any pre acquisition mentality... "This could be THE ONE!"
For a partner, THE ONE would be nice (understatement), but for torches, promiscuity is a virtue. Never settle.:naughty: Look around, sp many nice fish in the see (again, torches, not people)

I finally came to the realization that "I want it" is a valid justification.

This is a mark of Maturity.

Thanks,

Haha.

I also realized that if I ever get married springing $400 on a custom light is gonna be a lot harder so I had better do it while I'm single and get some cool lights when I can. :)

I also don't spend money on the stupid things most of the other people my age do, so I feel ok about spending mine on toys. Lol.

Cheaper than when I was addicted to gambling.

Cheaper than when I was addicted to drugs.

I work my *** off 16 hours a day.

It's only money.

Just like any tool I pay for quality and dependability. I use them and need them. Why buy junk?

I too am retired and on a fixed budget. I have some discretionary reserve most months, so I look at what I 'want but don't really need' and decide where to spend it. I have talked myself out of several light purchases lately, but still have a gleam in my eye for a TM06 or a TM36. Maybe some day. (sigh)

How do I justify to myself purchasing an expensive flashlight?

I use my flashlight as a tool at work. My internal dialogue is comfortable when I spend $200.00 on a flashlight. I would feel uncomfortable buying a $2,000.00 flashlight. For me there is a line.

You will have to draw your own line.

How do women justify having 20 purses and a gazillion shoes when maybe 2-3 purses and 5-7 pairs of shoes would be sufficient?

How do people justify going out to expensive bars every week and spending $100 on drinks?

How do people justify spending big bucks to have two full-sized SUVs in the driveway when family sedans (or even nice sporty cars) would be cheaper to buy AND feed gas to?

How do people justify spending $1-3 a minute (which adds up FAST) on phone sex?

How do you justify spending ~$200 a month (more than most here spend in that time period on flashlights) to slowly destroy their bodies by smoking a pack of cigarettes a day?

How do you justify spending potentially hundreds of dollars a month by eating out multiple days a week at fancy shmancy restaurants?

The funny thing is, ALL of these things (with the possible exception of the phone sex) are considered perfectly normal and socially acceptable. And even someone who spends BIG bucks on phone sex is probably looked at as being less 'bonkers' than someone who rushes to their computer to preorder the latest Zebralight. Yet unlike most of these things, flashlights are resellable. They don't destroy your health (unless a Li-Ion vents with flame in your face). And they encourage you to spend healthy time outdoors. Whatever. I guess it's just one more sign of how warped our society (and its priorities) REALLY is. Not that I care how people spend their money. But if someone calls me crazy or stupid because I just bought a $60 light after they just spent $100 to get drunk at a bar, we've got a problem.
