Saw this announcement from Rigid:

"...Rigid Industries® LED Lighting, the world's leader in forward projecting LED lighting via its patented optic systems and torture-tested housings, have introduced the first of their DOT/SAE compliant street legal lights, which now gives enthusiasts the best lighting solutions available both on- and off-road…"

Good stuff? Junk? Something in between?

Baloney. Sorry, that's just not true. What you saw and linked is nothing more than a promotional puff piece, a press release by the company. It is not news, and it is not factual. There are companies (JW Speaker is an excellent example; others include Hella, AL, Koito, Valeo...) that are far more successful than Rigid by any measure you care to use: number of designs commercialized, number of units in service, sophistication of design, efficiency of design, precision of light distribution, on and on and on.

Much of Rigid's stuff isn't junk (there's a lot of junk on the market), but Rigid's technology is relatively primitive and it's nowhere near as amazing as they'd like for you to believe. Of course, it also costs a lot less than the top-class stuff from Speaker (et al), so it's a get-what-you-pay-for situation.

It will be interesting to see how Rigid's product line evolves now that they've been bought by Truck-Lite.

It's better for the street than their earlier products at least.
I'm very encouraged by their Trucklite merge. They needed improving.
They and VisionX were the original stinky-bright LED lights on the market.
