More power, longer runtimes, better heatsinking and better balance on head. Be they back of head mount or elsewhere. So I get to looking at what's out there. And get buried in a mudslide of google garbage for dx specials. Nothing wrong with those lights. Some of them are not bad. What else is there? Aside from the Spark, be ready to lay down $300+ for the ones found so far. Tell me what I'm missing. Others can count AA types, though I'm looking more at 18650 types.

Manley20 Updated version of KevinL's custom Kavelight headlamp from what I understand.

Coast has a ton of battery pack headlamps, plenty of different price points, features, options. I rather like them.

I really like my Foxelli mx500l, one of the most lightweight rechargeable battery pack headlamps I have ever used.
Also very powerful for its size.

Highly recommended.

lol, Royi Kien has posted exclusively about Spark for five years now, and Scott43 has done nothing since joining but tout that generic thing. Bias perhaps? :D (Spark headlamps are quite good though!)

Fenix's HP12, HP15, HP20, & HP25 models also come to mind, as does Black Diamond's Icon model. Of those only the HP12 and the aforementioned HP30 use li-ion cells though.

On the other end of the price range we'll find several more custom caving lamps like Scurion, El Speleo, Phaethon, Pulsar, Rude Nora, and Stenlight. If you're not bashing your light against submerged rocks while your life depends on the lamp not breaking, caving-specific headlamp prices will (as you seem to have noticed) seem absurd.

There are a lot of helmet-mounted lights (like the Lupine) which are made for biking, but I haven't tried to stay current with that scene. Many are very bright, but many also get very hot and expect rapid airflow for cooling.

I wasn't up to date on the scene at all. And when I started looking, was a bit more difficult than expected. Finding one that fits my own specs will be made simpler. And maybe the list will help others looking for something other than the all in one that seems more popular now. Appreciate the names of the companies, added to the list. Figured add in the AA types as well. I couldn't find an actual website for Foxelli, so didn't make a link.

If there are any that are not shown, hopefully will let know so can add them. Though, if they don't have a website of some sort not going to list it.

Olight H35 Wave

I didn't see the Olight H35 Wave mentioned. I have never used one, so I have no idea how well they work.

Re: Olight H35 Wave

LED Lenser makes some outstanding headlamps I had a 14.2 model. The Lensers have that focusing ability none of the other Manufacturers do. Olight makes some of the best battery pack headlamps currently also.

Re: Olight H35 Wave

I've have a Gloworm X2 light that I've used as a bike light and Headlamp. Mine is 1,200 lumens, but the new ones are 1,500. They now offer neutral white also and you do have to buy the headlamp strap separately for $12. It has a 4 cell 18650 battery pack that I put in my back pack or run the cable down to my runner's belt where it's mounted. It uses the typical round magicshine type connectors so it can work with those style battery packs. I've had mine for a couple years and it has held up well and the light head is really light weight. Another nice benefit of a battery pack is that when it is sub zero weather you can keep the pack under your coat to keep it from getting too cold. The cold definitely kills your battery runtimes. Recently I have just been using 2 Zebralights that do a great job and I like not having the cables. But, I may go back to using my Glowworm x2 when the temperature gets real low this winter. Here is the website http://www.glowormlites.co.nz/ , but in the US I would order from actionledlights here http://www.action-led-lights.com/collections/gloworm-lights .
