    Default HDS Systems Headlamps #1

So who's excited about a HDS headlamp?

There has been talk/rumors for months now & SHOT is this week so this is a prime opportunity for Henry to announce it.

Last year at SHOT show Henry announced the 2xAA & 18650 tubes so we can all hope.

I figured a separate thread would help any headlamp specific details not get lost in the regular mega thread. (Thanks wacbuzz)

Anybody have any knowledge to share or just hopes & dreams?

After having owned multiple ZL's & Sparks my personal hope is for a HDS headlamp that looks like a Spark ST6 but with the rotary dial & button on one end. Also this would be a prime opportunity for him to make it 18350 compatible with a delrin sleeve for CR123a's.

I'm also assuming the the flood reflector will be compatible which would be super awesome.

StuGatz found this video so I'm adding it here:

I hope it's small and light. Henry did mention in the main HDS thread that he would be wearing one at SHOT so whoevers going could hopefully post some pics of it here. Would be much appreciated!

    I am eagerly awaiting this!

A bomb-proof programmable headlamp... Isn't this what Henry started out making lights for?

    Default HDS Systems Headlamps #1

I'm predicting the rotary dial will be standard on the headlamp, possibly with detents added. No Clicky only model. The head strap won't be stretchy, but fixed somehow, yet adjustable, like a hard hat. An optional chin strap will also be part of the design. Also included will be the ability to mount two lights to the head strap.

Thumbs up Re: HDS Systems Headlamps #1

I've been waiting for quite some time. Example

The only description Henry has given is along the lines of "Think of everything you hate about headlamps. Now picture a headlamp that solves each one of those problems."

Can't wait to see what he's cooked up in his mad scientist lab.

I've never seen that quote before but he's got some big competition out there. I'm not trying to denigrate anything that HDS does and I hope his headlamp is awesome, but there's not much I hate about my Zebralights. The addition of Rotary controls would definitely have my attention.

Regardless of how it turns out, I'm watching.

Follow "Flashlight Guide" on Instagram to see the prototype of the HDS Headlamp. At least I think it's real.

Thanks for the heads up. Looks like this is still a rough prototype and I'd assume production is still a long way off with much more refinement still needed.

Definitely a lot more refinement needed. That thing looks ridiculous and hideous at the same time.

Rotary tail, straight beam and an angled one for short range illumiation.

A lot of combination... high cri, narrow beam, flood reflector, hyper red, 4k XP-L... you could select wich led to light on with the 1/2/3 cick from the tail...

It's almost like a "à la carte" headlight.

    A lot of potential.

My concern is that it is not "à la carte" at all but is a "fixed menu" instead. I'm still trying to work out if the angled light is adjustable as without adjustment I'd consider this a big fail. Yes there are plenty of fixed angle headlamps and these are fine for very limited activities, but not for serious use. I work on various tasks and need to adjust the angle for each of these to optimise the lighting, even with flood headlamps.

The rotary adjustment will be a great feature if the switch can be moved to the top. Personally I find a top mounted button the easiest as you just 'pinch grip' the whole headlamp to get to the switch.

I wonder what Henry's plans are for power....that monstrous box looks like it might even take a couple of 18650s.

you're right, but Henry promises that his headlamp will solves a lot of problems. The design is obviously not finished, we could speculate that some "technical data" aren't too.

Maybe we could imagine different angled head that you could swap mounted on powerful magnet with quick swap ?

    This is a joke, right?

If that's even somewhat close to what an HDS headlamp would look like, I'll pass, and I'm pretty certain most others would as well.

Hopefully, HDS isn't a one hit wonder...

It looks like someone took an HDS light and a plastic box and put them in the transporter from the original Fly. Hideous!

I'm not interest in a headlamp the slightest but when imagining the headlamp I always thought of a normal HDS but then with the led on the side of the body and obviously the rotary control. That would look pretty sweet imo.

Guys, its a prototype. Early prototypes are about function, not form. That can't be what the final version will look like. Its just a proof-of-concept where he's taken existing parts from HDS lights and Frankenstein'ed them together to see how well it works. I'm no HDS fanboi - in fact I don't even have one because Henry hasn't seen fit to send mine yet, a fact that I've been very vocal about to an annoying degree, I'm afraid - but even I'm not getting too worked up about how ugly the prototype is. Its a process guys. Let the process work.

In the meantime I wish he'd put that headlamp prototype down and finish my Rotary! But that's a discussion for another thread...
