I realized on looking into this that none of my bike lighting carries any UK approval - despite it costing me £100+ last year. Its my fault - I did not think to look into this at the time. Lesson learnt!
I am commuting on busy roads at dusk and dawn and would really like to know that I am running lights that are meeting the law - and keeping me safe. Looking into this matter I have gleaned that most all LED lights for sale don't meet the law, and are sold as auxillary lights only and so I am fitting the following which I know does meet the law:
Incandescent front lamp 2.4W
Incandescent rear lamp 0.6W
Both are showing the required steady beam. The maximum allowed for the front is 2.4 Watts as far as I can tell. I have purchased a dynamo filament bulb front and rear light set - which has full BS marking. But I do't want to use a dynamo, rather a pack with 5AA NiMh batteries in a safe place and out of the weather. I will run leads from this. But try as I might I cannot find any suitable AA battery carrier - the ones for sale are lithium 18650. Under the crossbar or above my bottle are fine - as long as I can access the pack for charging. Does anyone here use an AA carrier of any sort on their bike?
I will still keep my LED lights, but in addition to the proper approved lights.
