I want to clear up a few shelves in my garage by throwing away many old halogen lights. But before I do this, I want to know if is there are creative uses for their reflectors or metal. I do not like these steel stands ( converting to lightweight aluminum as well as buying more LED, adding to my mh collection) . I think halogens are as done as CDs, possibly vinyl and tapes. But I'm wondering if I cannot build something using their parts.?

The reflectors are designed for an axial light source, and are really just stamped sheet metal. There isn't alot of salvage value for LED conversion unless the case is aluminum and you find a way to interface the LED heatsink to it. Halogen prefers to run hot, LED prefer to run cold.

There are a few people who have converted these to LED. I looked into it myself but decided it was too much of a PITA to bother but it can be done. I'm sure there's vids on YouTube and threads here and on blf on how to.
