Default CPF UK 2016 - THE NEW MEET UP THREAD

OK - I'm calling it as we haven't met up for a long time, and we really should.

I would like to do The Welsh Aqueduct camping trip in Late June or early July, and I think we would need a couple of nights to make it worthwhile. So a long weekend would be best - i.e. Friday and Saturday night at least.

The best campsite would be the Tower Farm Campsite in Llangollen. £6 per person per night regardless of how many tents. Heated shower block, right by the canal (Llangollen branch - a few miles from the Aqueduct).

There's other accommodation in Llangollen - hotels etc if needed.

The travel thing could be a bit of a pain - but we could get two insured drivers for each car and share chauffeuring duties? Or the train stations are near as well.

And the Aqueduct and canal walk here: http://www.pontcysyllte-aqueduct.co....llte-aqueduct/

I know I tried and failed to get this going last year, but I will probably go myself and would welcome any of my Flashaholic friends along for a weekend of torches and sleeping under canvas (well - rip-stop nylon anyway).

    Any takers?

Please count me in on the Welsh Aqueduct camping trip in Late June or early July. 2 or 3 nights sounds perfect.

    Lets hope for sunny weather

That's OK, it always rains in Wales, but it 's always sunny as well. Waterproofs and tents (I have my camp bed and am dying to try it out!). Umbrellas for the walk.

    And then there were two.

Hooray! Welcome petrev. 3 for Pontcysyllte!

On the date front, how about:

    June 24th/25th
    July 1st/2nd
    July 8th/9th

I'll contact the campsite nearer the day, but they look good.

Schools haven't broken up yet, so shouldn't be too bad - local holidaymakers only.

I would like to leave London Early on the Friday, so no work for me!

Hello all unfortunately this is looking very unlikely for me. Those dates are almost certainly out and I could probably only do something early August as I just have far too much going on June/July, though early June might be possible.

Hi Sub, glad to hear from you.

Sorry the dates don't work for you, they are the only ones I can do, the difficulty is getting the Fridays off when I'm on the job, so to speak. My current job finishes on June 20th, but you never know, something may turn up.

    Cheers.

To be honest, I'm not sure what I'll be able to make and what I won't this year. I'll certainly try to come but will have to let you know closer to the time. It'll have to be a 'probable' from me.

Now we are the fantastic four. I second the 24th/25th June 2016

How much is the boat hire?

I've had a quick look online but can't find any prices. I remember that you could do a half-day hire from Trevor, close to the aqueduct, which would be perfect as we could do the tunnels too. I can call them when I'm back in the UK early next week or if someone is keen I think I posted a photo of their phone number on the side of a boat in an earlier thread.

I've found the original thread but I'm not sure you can make out the phone number. I'm sure I'll have another picture somewhere of it.

As the day boat link is now dead this might not be possible any more

Little help guys as I live less than an hour away.Day boat hire is available.

Our 32 foot (11m approx) narrow boat is now available for day hire. This is a perfect way for a family, group of friends or a corporate team to have their own private boat for the day. Self-steer only (don't worry, you can do it!), the boat accommodates up to 10 passengers. Comfortably fitted out, the boat has heating, hot and cold running water and a flushing toilet. There are gas rings for cooking and crockery & utensils are supplied. Steering tuition is given on arrival. Hiring the boat between 9:30 and 17:00 gives plenty of time for a leisurely cruise along the beautiful Llangollen Canal, and an unforgettable passage across the famous Aqueduct at Pontcysyllte. Your turn around point is the lift bridge after the Aqueduct - a round trip of about 10 miles. There is a folder on board detailing the pubs and restaurants along the way, together with their telephone numbers and menus should you wish to book ahead.
Prices Boat Hire - Weekends & bank holidays - £180 per day.

Boat Hire - Weekdays (excluding bank holidays) - £130 per day.

(£70 refundable cash deposit required on the day).

You need to watch out to make sure your dates are spot on because of Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod 5 – 10 July

They come from over the world for this so all hotel space is fully booked as are many camp sites.

It would be great to see you, but health comes first, as always. I wish you a swift and firm recovery. If you feel up to a cup of tea in a cafe while we're up there, that is kind of the thing we love most to do. Just pile the torches onto the table in between the cups and saucers!
