    Totalling a whopping 772 now

And a blatant copy of Tom, he is testing the first prototype:

    First Look
Here's some comparison with some common lights, and SRK style lights:

    Alone:

    Under the tailcap:

Contact plate on the driver - looks like nice brass:

Couldn't resist to get some #'s. So... It's impressive. Right about dead even with my home brew Q8 proto, built from a Securitylng 4X SRK clone.
On Samsung 30Q BT's fresh off the charger (not rested) @4.20V:

    • Lumens: 5,710 @start, 5,320 @30 secs
    • Throw: 46 kcd (429 meters), taken at 5m (may be higher at 10+ meters)

The Securitylng 4X SRK clone proto on same Samsung 30Q BT's @4.20V did:

    • Lumens: 5,627 @start, 5,447 @30 secs
    • Throw: 52 kcd (456 meters)

The 4X SRK clone had a UCLp lens and had bypasses on the springs. It appears the real Q8 proto has regular non-AR glass lens, and large springs, not doubled and not bypassed. The real proto has more of a drop in the first 30 secs, so not sure if it's voltage sag from the springs, or something else going on with heat. Haven't taken her apart yet to get a look at the MCPCB - that will tell us a lot more.
I would say the tint is in the 2 range, 2A or 2B - not the 3D we were asking for, but I'm assuming they are top binned at V6 or maybe V5 based on the performance, but that's hard for me to judge.
    Dimensions:

    • 59.0 mm head
    • 50.0 mm battery tube
    • 52.0 mm tailcap
    • 135.1 mm height

Argh, CPF is slow, I thought I had reacted
    Again
We are not there yet, the proto was rushed so needs work.
Yet seeing the pics and videos (see below) is awesome, already coming to life!

    Tom made a few videos
(will it cop paste? Oh I hope!)

Couple of new videos, showing the new ThorFire BLF.

This shows the basic operation of Narsil v1.2 on the new ThorFire BLF Q8 prototype:

This shows wall beamshot comparisons between the ThorFire BLF Q8 on the left, and the 4X SRK clone, modified, on the right, both running Narsil v1.2:

    Hey CPF is back!
    Still extremely slow

    BLFlist at 800 now.

    Update?
Well we are talking to the new engineering team and talk is about what FET to use.
The one we want taks a very long time to get.
So the search is for a FET that has the good properties and is available
No small feat (and way beyond me. and also beyond our contact.
So this is a bit funny, him and me do most of the talking, then he has to translate things to Chinese and onvey it to engineering, I discus things with people who know what all those figures mean.
The pressure of delivering an outstanding light is resting upon us, Thorfire knows it, and I feel it too. We do our best but better a bit longer of a wait then troublesome launch.

Next concern: when production actually begins, how long will first run be - and how quickly can they get enough produced? With 800 queued up, that's a lot of mouths to feed at the same time!

    Godspeed!

yes CPF and BLF now 835 and climbing.
Thorfire is well aware of the number and also that more are needed, we asked for more to be made.

    list here updated.

Now we are not doing nothing, some parts for the driver are hard to get and Thorfire for the FET for example asked if they could use replacement that would been easier to get. All the proposed FETs would increase the parasitic drain and of course the driver was tested and scoped with a certain FET, this one now should be our original one. There are some more parts, but surely we will get there in the end.

Keeping up with this project is really interesting! Thanks for all of your effort in bringing this light to life and for updating us on CPF about progress.

The Miller, is there any chance that you could update CPF on the progress of the GT as well? I am excited to see the progress and then buy the final product, but some of the recent posts have been discouraging. These projects are what I think brings out the best attributes of a topical forum like BLF, I hope they can get past some of the recent squabbles and just build a great light.

Hmm OK I will pass it along.
The GT was going way wrong indeed but there should be progress via various PMs so I'll ask TA to start a topic here and explain how CPF is a friendly place as well if one refrains from outside links

I have been following the GT and Q8 threads on BLF, the GT thread can get a little crazy, but the process is very interesting. I am a little surprised at some of the comments about CPF, I just have not seen any justification for that. CPF and BLF are different, but I honestly like them both for different reasons. I will call you the peacemaker.

Yes I steer clear of that, joined BLF little over a year ago.
It is a bit sad since it is the same hobby.
But for some there seems to be resentment, well too bad for them right

I've heard this many times . It is sad. Never really spent time there unless a link from Google put me there.

And with the list on BLF crossing 1000 the sheer numbers for th first run are humbling indeed

And about the GT, we are asking so much that I forsee a limitation of number of GTs for the ultra low groupbuy prices, so to keep things simple i annot do two lists on tow locations, sorry, I keep that on BLF only.

    OK a little update
We had a setback, a new prototype was made but our contact at Thorfire was not happy with it (no smooth threading) so it was not even send to us (good why bother wasting $ so that us more then OK)

In two weeks a new prototype should be finished bit they want to test it with four stars for the leds instead of the big copper one of the first proto.
We are not really sure how to feel about that so most likely will ask for a slightly adapted reflector instead.
The saga continues and if news comes I let you know.

Prototype V2 is shipped to Tom, here ar some pics:

    Prototype 2:

    looking sharp
    .

    better LED alignment
    .

do we see cell polarity protection?
    .

    double springs!
    .

anxiously awaiting arrival at Tom for moer closer inspection.

Thanks for the update... good progress!

I would love to ask what it means for actual rollout, but I think back to an earlier post that said something like... "It will be by Christmas. Which Christmas is TBD." But I hope soon so that the led choice holds up with time!

Well Tom has not received the proto V2, so it is not clear how far we actually are now.
IF it takes many more months ( certainly do not hope so) we will look at possibly different LEDs, the XPL2 has a tint shift in reflectors so not ideal thus we did not asked for them..
