So I have 4 AW 2900 batteries and a Pila IBC charger. I don't remember when I bought them, but it's been years. I have a pair in a Fenix Tk35. I have the other pair stored in a plastic container. I barely use the light. Only when I'm out camping or the occasional power outage. Anyways, when I was about to head out to camp this week, I tested my flashlight and it wouldn't come on. I thought that was weird. I checked voltage with my cheap Harbor Freight DMM and it shows 3.7v for both. Odd. I put in my spares and the light works fine.
I then put the "dead" batteries into the Pila charger and both the red and green lights were on for both batteries.. Solid, not blinking. I just assume that meant charging, so I came back an hour later and notice it was still in the same condition. This made me dig up my manual and I see in order for it to be charging, the green should be off with red on... Hmmm, that's weird. I popped out the batteries and put them back in. Same thing. I then accidently rotated the batteries and all of a sudden, one is in charging mode. I rotate the other and it starts charging too. I close the lid and all of a sudden, I get the same issue as before. I tapped the plastic lid and it starts charging again. I come back and the left side shows it's fully charged. Right side still charging. I unplugged it so it wont charge overnight.
I tested voltage and it shows 4.55v on this cell. That cant be right???? Well, I let it rest. Now it's been almost a day and voltage is 4.53. I plugged the charger back in and the right cell had both solid green and red lights. I rotated the battery and now it's charging with red only. It's been an hour and still charging.
What's the deal? I don't recharge the batteries much. Maybe only a handful of times over the years. I charged them and store them for a year or so.
