So I'm considering a couple options in regards to LED halos for my Can Am Maverick. There's a company that makes a kit for the Maverick sells their kit for 139.99. It says the rings are waterproof and coated with I'm guessing some type of silicone spray or something. Depending on the vehicle, a closeup of the rings looks like there's multiple small LED's on each ring.
In contrast, I found 70mm rings (the size around the headlights) that are COB rings. (Chip on board) I did read a forum post on maverick forums from someone that made his own using the ones from superbrightleds, the plastic protective rings they sell and sealed them up with some silicone for much cheaper than the tricled Kit.
So here's my question. Anyone have any experience with COB LED's and would they be better? Seems like a more uniform light. The main concern is that they will be mounted outside on the headlight bezel directly so they need to be waterproof. I've worked with headlight housings before, taking them apart and resealing them so I'm confident I can seal the rings up inside the protective housing. Just wanted some opinions. I'll try to get some pictures posted for comparison.
Something else to mention is that these will be used for off road use only. They're going to see their share of mud and water but wont be submerged or anything like that. Here's some pictures I found of the difference between the two.
These are the COB rings and covers as well as a couple pics of them installed on a maverick. I did talk to this person and he said that so far they're holding up well. My only issues with the first set of pictures is I'd have to seal the ring inside the cover with silicone or something. The rings dont have a protective cover.
