One of Olight's latest releases in the S-serie Baton lights, is the S2A. The S2A is the bigger brother of the newly released S1A. It runs on two AA batteries, and features a Cree XM-L2 led that sits behind a TIR lens.
It has a max output of 550 lumens, which is quite impressive for a double AA light. The S2A comes in four color options, and in this review we're looking at the yellow version.

The packaging:

The S2A comes in Olight's nowadays standard translucent box with information and specifications written on it.
Inside the box you'll find; the S2A, two included Olight non-rechargeable lithium AA batteries, multi-language manual and a lanyard.

The S2A has a large silicon sleeve around the battery compartment that provide excellent grip on the light. The S2A comes in four color options; Black, Grey, Yellow or Blue.
A cool touch of the Grey/Yellow/Blue versions is, that the sleeve has a GITD feature. This helps to find the light at night :)
At the bezel and around the low-profile side-switch we see a blue PVD coated ring to protect the light when falling. It's a unique way from Olight to show others, it's an Olight.
The clip is already pre-installed from factory and is the known clip from Olight. The clip isn't reversible so it must be carried head-up.
A cut-out in the tailcap allows for a lanyard attachment. There is no magnet in the tail, which would be a nice thing to have. The low-profile switch prevents accidental activation when pocket carried but
can be tricky too find in the dark. A silicon switch cover provides a grippy touch.

A look at the GITD sleeve. Not as bright in real life, but it's noticeable when properly charged.

Overall, the S2A is very lightweight at 56 grams without batteries. If you look at the weight and don't mind the slightly longer size, it could be even a EDC light. The TIR lens provides a clean even beam with a slight throw.
In my option, it's good beam profile for up-close and medium distance task. Fit and finish is as we expect from Olight. Laser engraving is perfectly sharp and the square-cut threads are well milled and smooth.
Olight puts some lube on the threads during assembly. Springs at the positive and negative side of the batteries provide some shock absorption. With a length of 132mm it's fairly short for a double AA flashlight.
The S2A doesn't have a low-voltage indicator and turns off without warning. Batteries where at 0.875 V & 0.976 V when the light shut off.

Pros and Cons:

+ Lightweight and short
+ Well spaced modes
+ Clean beam

- Clip not reversible
- No magnet in tailcap
- No Low voltage indicator

Conclusion:

The S-serie Baton flashlight are known to many of us. They have been here for awhile and keep getting updated and updated, which is great!
With a max output of 550 lumens from two AA batteries, you could ask yourself; do I really want to carry a difficult to find CR123 battery flashlight? Well some want too, but there are people who prefer the
easy to get AA-battery platform. Manufacturers came a long way, to get lights that run on AA batteries at this output level. The S2A is a great preforming light and very affordable. His size and weight make it possible to EDC.
Specially in and around the house, the S2A fills the job nicely. And the Moonlight mode of .5 lumens provides enough lights for those nightly refrigerator visits ;)

The Olight S2A Baton was supplied by Adola for review.
