The S2R comes in this modern looking box
Like the S1A and S1R, the packaging was also designed by a tetris master.
Inside you have the S2R, the manual, an Olight embroided pouch, USB rechargeable base and lanyard.
Here's the S2R Baton.
The light comes with a 18650 already inside, so the usual instruction is needed: remove the spacer before try turning the light on and off.
A glimpse of moonlight during the day!
The design recalls the one of the S1A and S1R: cilindrical lights, with knurling on the body, same clip, LED (XM-L2 cool white), TIR optic and switch bezel with blue PVD coating.
The S2R tailcap looks very similar to the one of the S1R, because both lights also feature the recharging capability with magnetic base.
The insides of the tailcaps looks identical, and the S2R works with all button top18650s, while the charging system works only with the proprietary 18650 Olight battery that has both poles on one side.
The magnetic base is the same of the S1R (so you can use the same magnetic base for all SxR lights), it is very easy to connect, I have never had to reposition it in order to start the charge
and the cable indicates the charging state: Red for charging, green for charged.
Anodized threads allow physical lockout of the light.

A single click turns the light on and off.
When the light is on, a long click cycles through the 3 modes: low, medium and high, in cycle.
A double click will turn on the light at turbo mode.
From off, a long click turns the light on at moonlight mode.
To activate the electronic lockout, when the light is off keep pressed the switch until the light turns on into moonlight and finally turns off. Now if you click the switch, the light will briefly flash at moonlight. To remove the electronic lockout, keep pressed the switch until the light turns on constantly.
A triple click will give you access to strobe mode.
The light has memory mode for the constant output modes.
The S2R features also a timer mode. At any level, press twice and keep pressed the switch to activate the timer. A single click will set the timer at 3 minutes, a double click at 9 minutes. After the time is up, the light will turn off.
Output and runtime
Both output and runtime have been tested with the Olight 18650 Protected 3200mAh battery that comes with the light.
The battery has also been tested with my SKYRC MC3000, discharging it at 2 Amps until it reached 2.8 volts.
Output measured is consistent with specification
Sampling rate is every 2" for Turbo mode, and every 90" for high and medium modes.
The bump in the "High" curve happened because I had to stop and restart the test.
Beamshot at 0,5 meter from the wall
The beam is practically the same one of the S1A and S1R: the bigger part of the output is concentrated in a big spot, and the spill is wide and not very bright. The tint is a cool white with a drop of NW.
My thoughts
I don't have much to say: this light is practically a S1R that works with 18650 batteries, with the same recharging system (very practical and fast to use, but works only with Olight proprietary batteries), and similar interface. Switching from a 16340 to an 18650 battery will translate in a longer and slightly thicker light, but that outshines the S1R in term of runtime.
Runtime at the tested levels is perfectly regulated.
Compared to the smaller S1A and, in particular, S1R, I find the S2R easier to hold and use: the S1R I have to hold it with 2 fingers, while the S2R is practically a full sized light.
Since the charging base of the S1R and S2R are the same, you can charge the lights with either one.
So, if you or another person are comfortable with the S1R or the S1A, this light represents a bigger light suitable for longer works, or as a good all-around house light.
As for the S1R, I'd like to see the very practical charging feature work with non proprietary batteries, and a netural white/warm white option with XP-L or XP-L Hi emitters.
