I am almost done with my vehicle lighting.

My car is on the left - Osram H7 Rallye bulbs in the low beam, Hella Rally 4000 compact on the bar.
Still need to mod some HIR 9011 bulbs to 9005 sockets in the high beams, get some better bulbs for the Hellas (currently the stock 55w bulb, not sure exactly what i am going to put in, but the wiring was overdone, and is capable of handling 150w per bulb) and maybe put a second set of Hellas on too (its already wired for them)

the Liberty (Legacy for those of you outside Oz) is the wife's - need to order some more Osram Rallye bulbs (6, two for the Liberty and a spare set for each) for the low beam and do the HIR mod for the highs too.
when we got the car the left headlight was producing a terrible beam pattern, our mechanic (a subaru specialist) took one look at it, pulled the bulb out and put it in its socket properly, and its back to putting out a good beam - he is always amazed at how people manage to put the bulb in wrong, and surprised how often he sees it.

Thank you all for the help with avoiding junk, and improving our vehicle lighting !

Turns out i wasn't done.

I got a set of 4 brand new Rallye 4000 for an excellent price - finally got around to bolting them up and aiming them.
Will keep a close eye on engine temps for a while (luckily all 4 lights can be removed as a unit if it does start to get hot)

Still have to get a few more bulbs from candlepower.com - Osram Rallyes for the Liberty, spares for the forester etc.....

Those 4 Rallyes might prove to be irresistable to a thief.
hopefully no worse than the 2 i had fitted previously.
getting the individual lights off will be a challenge (it was a pain fitting them) as the bolts are hidden by the rectangular tube, and the hole is barely big enough for a thin socket.
I do need to look at a way of increasing the security of the bar rectangular tube being held to the nudge bar - shouldn't be too difficult to do ( the Nylock nuts are a start)

Which beam pattern 4000s did you get?
Currently all spot - the centre two aimed dead straight and the side ones slightly "crosseyed" for a bit of spread - i may change them out to a spread beam pattern at some point - I already have one spread reflector from the set i removed to fit these - just need to find another one.

Maybe this is extremely nitpicky of me, but it looks like you need to clock them-- the two outer ones really seem to be a bit too far clockwise.

Heat shouldn't be too much of a problem, even though a large amount of the visible grill is obscured, the lamps themselves taper to the rear and aren't pressed up against or into the grill. Probably should be fine unless traffic's at a standstill for a long time.

Pic was taken before they were aimed, so they should have been straightened up now (although i was more worried about where they were aimed, than if they were straight up and down) will check and reaim/straighten
I had a similar thought about the cooling, although the fans should do their job in traffic.
will still keep an eye out for the temperature though
