You should also be able to use a single 16650 cell, as long as the Surefire driver can handle voltage that low. I know I have P60 dropins in my 6P and G2, and they work just fine. As a matter of fact, the P60 I got from Mountain Elecltronics can only use a single Li-Ion cell.

That's because they're made for a single li ion cell. The OP's light was surefires first attempt at an "upgrade" for the p60 bulb so its meant to run on 2 primaries. It's the same head as on a 9p which is three primaries which has the same voltage as 2 16340. It may run on a single cell but it's not made for it

Fenix's ARB-L16-700 cells look good.
I purchased one, it is the same thickness as a CR123 with no protection strip running down the side (protection circuit at the + side of the cell), and only 0.5mm longer.

I am itching to do a capacity test but do not have the means to do so.
