Default Common Forum Tech Issues & How to Fix Them

Please start here if you are having Tech Issues with the forum. The tips and links below should help with many common problems. If you think of additional items that should be added please post here and I will add them. Thanks!

    Helpful Tips and Reminders:

    • When a logging in, it is a good idea to check the box "Remember Me" before clicking the login button. This will keep your login active instead of timing out at an unfortunate moment.

    • When creating a post, sometimes word entry freezes while writing, or some word processing glitch will arise. Going to "Advanced" will often clear things up. Sometimes using the left arrow (back) can get you on track.

    • Here in the USA, there will be a time in the late evening when server maintenance and backup will be going on. Patience is required during those times, or avoidance when the slowdown occurs.

    • If you need a post deleted or moved, use the Report Post triangle or the Private Message system to send a message to Moderators, who will do that for you.

Don't think a link is necessary to briefly mention that when a member logs in, it is a good idea to check the box "Remember Me" before clicking the login button. This will keep your login active instead of timing out at a misfortunate moment.

When creating a post, sometimes word entry freezes while writing, or some word processing glitch will arise. Going to advanced will often clear things up. Sometimes using the left arrow (back) can get you on track.

Here in the USA, there will be a time in the late evening when server maintenance and backup will be going on. Patience is required during those times, or avoidance when the slowdown occurs.

It is best to not get too bent out of shape when tech issues happen. Sometimes taking a screenshot is in order if you value your written product and fear it will be lost.

Good tips; I added them, along with a few threads to get it going.

my computer was broken. I did not catch that for an embarrassingly long time. This is what kept happening to me that I admit to possibly having made rude comments here about a year ago.-I would sign in as usual with my usual very long time information and check the "remember me" box at sign in.

Suddenly about a year ago I would do just that and my now known broken computer "lost" all that information "Remember me" box checked or not. I was very confused and even became suspicious about that back then.

Another example of my then broken computer causing confusion-I would be calmly reading through the threads, click on one then suddenly the user name, password box and "remember me" box were empty. My own then broken computer kept logging myself out at strange intervals.

I scan the big 3 light forums for a healthy hobby. The same thing happened on the other two. That is when I finally figured out it was some kind of technical issue on my end...a neighbor had been hacked into my broadband for over a year quite sloppily to boot. That is what essentially crashed my PC.

Always keep your signal secured. I very much learned that the hard way and of course apologized to Greta.

What do I do when I try to go to the forum home page for the first time, while automatically signed in, and I'm given the message, instead, that my account does not have permission to access that page? This has been happening since the recent maintenance was done. I can then get to the home page and access the forum threads by just ignoring the warning and clicking on the CPF icon or the "forums" button, but is there a way to stop the box pop-up telling me I don't have permission to go there and just going directly to the home page??

Try deliberately logging off, closing your browser, then reconnecting and logging back in, so you get a new session cookie.

I will be fixing it soon. Just do what you're doing now to bypass it.

Thanks for the responses - it's good to know it isn't a problem on my end....
