This is a two cell LiIon rechargeable battery.
It has over voltage protection at 8.63 and 8.64 volt.
It has over discharge protection at 5.08V and 5.57V.

The two batteries are just about the same capacity.
The voltage is lower than NiMH and more like a nearly empty alkaline, but it will stay this way for a very long time.

These batteries have more than double capacity compared to NiMH 9V batteries and are close to a alkaline battery at low load, except this battery will maintain high capacity and voltage at high load.

In moderate to high load situations this looks like a good replacement for alkaline.

My Soshine's both tested close to 650mAh at 0.2A, but that was with a few pauses (in order to build SOC graphs). I wonder if the difference is due to the pauses or due to your battery not being balanced well at the factory. What was the UVP level on your cell?

Your conclusion is puzzling. Generally they should also work just as well as alkalines in low-load situations. Was that a typo? In fact they are more likely to diverge from alkaline in higher load situations because of IR differences (which may confuse any fuel gauges that try to be very smart and incorporate parameters unique to alkaline).

I thought about using one of these in my multimeter but was concerned about the lower nominal voltage. Was wondering if the meter would work as designed with the lower voltage??

They work great in all of my multimeters. If you want to be sure you can use a variable power supply to determine your DMM's low-voltage warning value (or check reviews on eevblog) then use the above curves to estimate what capacity you will get. It seems highly unlikely that any DMM will prove problematic.
