You may not want to since these lights are dedicated throwers. Neither XHP50.2 or XHP70.2 is well suited for that purpose.

    Throwers use XHP35 or XPG2.
Generally speaking, XHP70.2 is for flood and XHP50.2 is for a balance.

Would be cool if they made HI versions of these - that'd take care of the tint shift.

theyre on page 4 of this thread. its pronounced enough in the shots that i can tell which ones are of the xhp 50.2 without reading the discription of the photo.

I wonder what the Olight R50vn 70.2 will do. 4000 lumens is crazy for a single cell.

These two look like the same light to me. I have the EC60vn and love it for it's throw. I am very tempted to get the EC50vn Gen 2 for its flood counterpart. I would expect the RC50vn to be very similar. One note of distinction is the EC50vn has a lower low setting.

OK, explain this one to me. Wimmer got me thinking about XHP50.2 in another thread, so I did some checking of CREE's data sheets. According to them, the max lumens for this emitter is 2654. Now I know Vinh can take all emitters higher than CREE publishes, but this is 40% higher!!! Really? Is it true? The TK47 has only one emitter, right? :dumbfounded:

That is a great point about the low level. I usually have a mini light on me recently though when I only need a little bit of light (though the S1R puts out pretty good on its turbo S mode). But maybe I should get the EC50vn to match the X45vn I ordered. I swear the price to output ratio has taken a huge leap with these new .2 LEDs. I still am gasping that for $325 you can get 21000 lumens in the X45vn (before carrier upgrades and not with VTC5's). You get 4000 lumens in a single cell for $135. Unreal what Vinh is doing with these lights at that price point.

That 3700 lumens is almost matching the XHP70.2 output! Plus, you get throw with XHP50.2. I'm just trying to figure out this stuff for my next light of course.

Hmmmm. Could it have something to do with the multiple cells being in series, which increases the voltage???

Vinh did say that the power handling and efficiency of the .2 leds is way better. That's probably the improvement he's so excited about, and not the small lumen gains Cree publishes.

    +1

    XHP70 Vf= 5.8V
    XHP70.2 Vf= 5.6V

    XHP50 Vf= 5.75V
    XHP5.2 Vf= 5.6V

This Lower Vf is a big contribution to the extra output ;-)

It's really no secret that Crees published numbers are measured with safety and longevity in mind: 2 things modders happily ignore in favor of performance.

My question is, are the xhp50 and 70 now obsolete? Will all lights that had them be replaced with the .2s? Or will they still have their place because their domes can still be shaved?

And yeah, these should have been called xhp2 50s and 70s.

    Good question.
    Eagtac mx25l4cvn xhp 50.2. 14000 lumen. 110k lux
eagtac mx25l4cvn. Xhp 50 diffuse dome. 9600 lumen. 82k lux..

thats 31 % increase in lumen.. 29 % increase in price too.

i know you've not said anything about modding that light yet, but I live in hope, I have one of your U21's and I love the manker build, combined with your mod and QC, and a MK35vn would pretty much complete my collection..

    ...for now.
I don't think he will. I got his power boosted sample the other day. I like the light, but I wish he gave it the full treatment with driver VN.

Do you think the r50vnP can be upgraded to the 70.2 with the stock driver and get more lumen?
