    Default Tesla 2170 Battery

Does anyone know if there is or will be any 2170 flashlights out, or in development yet? 5750-6000 mAh batteries are longer yet thinner than the 26650 battery. Just curious...

I know of one flashlight in the works, for both 20700 and 21700:

Maybe it's just me, but I'm perfectly content with the 18650 form factor. I've got one 26650 light and would like say a Convoy L6 2x26650 light down the road, but I'm good with most runtimes for 18650 lights.

Of course, after revamping my NiMH charger, batteries and getting a few AA lights five years back, I swore I wasn't going get into li-ions and then a member PMed me about the ZebraLight SC600 and well, that goal lasted about 3 months.

I'm staring at my Convoy M2 in front of me and it's whispering to me 'Chris, don't forsake us...".

I just don't see a reason for the 21700 myself, but what do I know? Not much when it comes to this kind of stuff, I could stick with my 18650's until a cyber attack knocks out all three power grids, then I will be happy I own five Surefire lights, and three Olight's that all take SF123A batteries. The only lights I own that doesn't is the SF Titan, SF Titan Plus and the Olight X7. I have 100+ New SF123a's.

I'm guessing if the size catches on big time in the future many lights and devices will use the format and you will be able to buy adapters to use 18650 cells in such devices. Personally I'm also satisfied with the 18650 size for light use the 21700 would probably be more useful in large devices needing a lot more power like tools and even radios.

We have these things called 'solar panels'--both 12vdc and 5vdc USB. Most chargers are 12vdc and/or 5vdc USB, so we're covered when the zombies attack! Unless we suffer through a nuclear winter, then we're doomed...doomed I say.

I have no needs for a large supply of primary batteries here with recharging solutions that accept 12v input I have my own power station in an outage and keep a gallon or two of extra fuel for it in the garage. Most folks here have vehicles that they can power nimh and/or lithium ion battery chargers all you need is to make sure you don't run out of fuel for them and even in the worse power outage for history there was only a gas shortage of a day or two such that after that you could find gas with a little efffort half the stations in town had power and some of the ones without power had generators running the pumps.

"The 2170 cell is around 50% larger by volume than the 18650, but it can deliver almost double the current (the 18650 delivers 3,000 mA, and the 2170 has been tested at 5,750-6,000 mA)."

The 2170 battery already beats the standard 26650 in capacity at 6,000 mA and its development is just getting started. Imagine where the specs will be in a few years.

The internal resistance was measured to be lower than even the best 18650 IMR batteries so the amps provided will be higher than the best 18650 IMR and for a longer duration.

If we use the typical 1000 lumen LED light, there is no big advantage to using the 2170 battery except some extra runtime. However, if you move up to the hotrod power-hungry XHP70 or XHP50 or multi-LED lights, I suspect the 2170 will become the favorite.

This isn't accurate or is badly written as the 18650 can deliver a LOT more current than 3A and capacity of 3400-3500mah has been available for some time.
There is this info that claims the 21700 is 4750mah

Later on they are talking about 5Ah...... In other words I think the article quoted is not accurate especially when someone makes a very obvious mistake equating current as mah which instead of capacity.
