I have 8x protected 18650 batteries I`m planning to use as a battery pack. I`m planning of connecting them so the output will be 8.4V.
I already have battery pack (http://www.magicshine.com/product/mj-6106-7800mah-mj908/) which I bought with my magicshine lamp. The charger which was included outputs DC 8.4V - 1.8A.
Can I connect my homemade battery pack with protected batteries directly to the charger (the easiest way) or do I need to solder a controller/chip of some kind between the power source and the battery pack?

No problem - you can connect your battery directly. However, the two groups connected in parallel, should have the same voltage.
It would also be worth considering, joining a balancer cable (a 2s type). Then you can compare the two voltages at any time and if necessary, balance them with a hobby charger, or charge them generally with it.
