Fenix FD65 LED Flashlight

1-minute Operation Overview

The Fenix FD65 focusable LED Flashlight is fitted with three Cree XHP35 HI neutral white LED's. It also includes an efficient TIR optical lens that emits a max output of 3800 lumens and has a beam distance of 1,345 feet/410 meters. Rotating the focusing ring on the Fenix FD65 moves the head forward and backward resulting in changing between the spot- and floodlight. Simple two button operation - click the "H" switch to High output and increase the brightness and then click the "L" switch to activate the Low output and decrease the brightness. It is normally powered by four 18650 Li-ion rechargeable batteries. You are able to use just two 18650 batteries in case of emergency. With an IP68 rated protection, momentary on strobe and SOS function, the Fenix FD65 is the perfect flashlight for going caving, outdoor photography, searching and rescuing.

This looks very promising. I suppose it would have been nice if Eco mode was lower, but its very hard to have everything.

I like the tint, that is about it. I guess I am in the Minority! I guess Fenix has given up on Throwers, with Acebeam, Thrunite and others way ahead of them.

Re: Fenix FD65 3800-Lumen High Performance Focusing Flashlight - WOW!

This light is clearly not designed to be one of the longest throwers but rather to have a more all-purpose beam.

The 420 metres is a useful distance to be able to see to and I would have thought that it would cover most applications apart from the more extreme search and rescue types.

I'll be interested to find out whether the floody beam shows a significant difference in beam-type to the less floody one and can be used at close quarters without blinding the eyes.

If it succeeds in this, then it would fill a niche that most focusing flashlights have not been able to do very well in my opinion.

I like the direction that Fenix seem to be going in, making more practical lights for 'normal' people. There are plenty of other manufacturers (and modders) making lights to keep flashaholics happy.

I agree with you[clearly not designed to be a thrower]....and that is my point. They seem to have no interest in throwers anymore. It has been well over 1 year since Fenix was talking about a new revised type TK61. It never materialized and neither has anything else in that platform.

Or maybe I'm abnormal as I quite like this light and I've also recently bought an X45 which I have absolutely no use for!

There's no such thing as normal (at least I hope not!) :)

I love lights that throw long distances but sadly they are more for showing off in my case as I have little real use for them being a lazy, urban-dwelling, aging couch potato.

I suspect (seeing pictures of your beautiful Huskey) that you will have far more real use for them than I would to support a more active and interesting lifestyle. :)

Being Normal is not good! We are ALL abnormal in our own ways. We all have different preferences and uses for our torches.

YES,,,CAPO my Siberian loves my throwers, spotting creatures that arouse his attention for a possible meal!:naughty:

A Thanksgiving meal[Squirrel] that got away.

A Groundhog that did not! He carried it 1 mile home........his First of many victims.

He keeps me in shape. WE just passed the 15.5K mark in miles on the trail. He is 6.5 years old,,,,,,,in 4 years we will have walked around the World,,25K miles/40,233KM

Final note: Every creature he has polished off he has been on a Leash!. Huskies should not be off the leash because of their High PREY drive and they are sled pulling dogs!

Have a good night,,,time to hit the trail.:twothumbs

Your dog is in his prime ! Cherish the next few years. My pooch is 13 and doesn't like going out in the dark too often for walks anymore.

On topic, the FD64 looks like a great light. Once again I will pass on it because 50 lumens is too bright for close up illumination for me. A 1 to 3 lumen low start point would be great.

I really dig the concept, though with the peak intensity of 11 cd/lm one can only zoom between very-floody and rather-floody...which is less than ideal.

I just found a brief video on YouTube of this light, it looks quite impressive in flood mode, not sure about the spot mode as there were no long distance shots.

Is there no lockout feature on this light?

Edit: i saw that there was a lockout mode now. Looks like an interesting light, challenge the Tiny Monster family.
