I have an Xtar VP1 charger. Will this charge the 16650 batteries? Manual doesn't list it but I think maybe that were not around when manual was written!

It depends on the 16650. Some 16650s like my Sanyo v.1 (2200mAh) are 4.30 volts, so while you can charge them up using the 3.7v setting, to 4.20v, you're not going to get the full capacity. The 3.8v setting (for 4.35v cells) will be too great.

The newer Sanyo 16650 v.2s (2500mAh) are 4.35v cells, so you can use the 3.8 (4.35v) setting and get the full capacity.

If they are protected Sanyos, the over-voltage protection kicks in at about 4.25v, so you're SOL with those and full capacity.

I'm likely only to be running KeepPower protected anyway

Just use the 3.7v setting for 4.20v, which is what I do on my Redilast protected 16650s and my VP2.

I don't use my SF 6P all that much, so my OCD is kept in check.

Good luck.

Only setting I've EVER changed on the VP1 is the charge rate (I usually charge at max 1amp). It's all automated....not even sure HOW to change anything else!

:)

But all I have is protected 18650s so far.

I was originally thinking VP2 in my mind when I first posted. It has three charging rates and three different chemistry settings. While I have 6 Xtar chargers, I don't have the VP1.
