Thread: Philips ECE and DOT H4 and HB2 bulbs

Default Philips ECE and DOT H4 and HB2 bulbs

Are Philips "LongLife Ecovision" and "X-treme Vision +130%" offered in an HB2 DOT marked version, or only H4 ECE marked? If there is no difference between the HB2 and H4 Philips bulbs in their respective lines, why are they (sometimes?) not dual-marked (H4 with ECE mark, and HB2 with DOT mark)... marketing?

The HB2 version of the X-Treme Vision is this one. It is also type-approved as H4, and I would favor (or "favour" in canada, eh!) it over the European version, because the US version doesn't have blue tint over the high beam portion of the glass. The practical difference in output on low beam between the "+100" and "+130" is going to be nil, and the high beam is going to be better on the US bulb. In the past Philips offered a 9003 LongLife Ecovision, but it appears to have been discontinued. That's no loss; long-life bulbs give poorer initial performance than standard or high-output bulbs, and they last long enough to lose a huge amount of output.

    Yes.
