Sorry if posting a new thread here is taboo, but I've been real happy with the TK75vnQ that I got a couple years ago, and wanted to know the latest and greatest searchlight with the same form factor of the TK75vnQ and cost <$400.

Also, is there a spreadsheet that lists all of Vinhs lights with their specs, LED, lumens, k lux, etc all in one place? Thanks!

There is the 2018 tk75vn option, several LED flavours to choose. If you like cool white, then the sst40 option may be the one! Other than that, prob best to check through skylumen site and have a look at what will suit you best. Could always jump up a size and go the rc40vn route , or x65vn. The acebeam x80vn is more compact, but more floody..........again depends on really what your preferences would be(throw, flood or a bit of both). Now with these crazy high output lights, they reach out far enough to surpass some throwers.

How do SST40s compare with XHP35 and XHP70 in terms of throw and lumen? I wonder if there's a database or table comparing the most interesting LEDs for flashlights with die size, max current, etc.

Right now, tk75vnq and thrunite tn40svn are the top high output thrower.

tk75vnq. Sst40/xhp35
compact.. lights are expensive from factory
great quality.
can add extended battery

thrunite tn40svn xhp 35
super bright in lumen and max lux
little bigger than fenix
great price.

Just did a quick research. SST-40 has more Lux than XHP35 but slightly less output right? Can't a TN40 be made with SST-40s? Wonder what are the expected numbers on a TK75 SST-40?

I didn't consider swapping the LED in my TK75vnQ. I can't remember what LED is in it to be honest. I would want a neutral white for sure, and of course more lumens and throw and I'd sacrifice runtime if another LED would fit that criteria and not off the wall expensive to swap.

I am a fan of the xhp35 HI 5000k, so i would pick that over more output(or even more throw) as i like a neutral beam. Choices out of sst40 and xhp35 HI would depend on what is more important. Highest output, prefer cool (sst40 only has cool option for now) to neutral(cool option as well with xhp35 HI ) . Vinhs measurements are comparative, so look at both and see what best for your application:cool: in mind for the tk75vn

Your welcome.. in my opinion, xhp 35 are durable. Led can take mass heat.. tn40svn is the best bet..,

I believe you can use Sony vtc5, vtc5a, VTC6, or Samsung 30q.. all unprotected.. not sure if it required button top. Will have to check it when I get home.

I was just going by website description for tn40svn at skylumen that says "4 protected batteries needed." Is that a misprint?

He didn't mention using protected cells when I bought it. So I use Sony VTC6 flat top on my tn40vn. You will need to ask Vinh about that.. or mod to take unprotected cells.

Hows the tn40svn now using unprotected cells, still working fine?

I talked to Vinh about battery choice when I bought mine. He doesn't recommend using unprotected high current cells. It's a gamble because the TN40vn draws an enormous amount of current for the XHP35s and depending on the individual emitter, you might kill one. I charge my VTC6s to only 4.1V when i use them in the TN40vn just to be safe.

Ah then your losing potential extra runtime, if high Amp cells is the problem I wonder if unprotected sanyo GAs will work fine?

Nah you are not really losing anything, because the GAs will have a higher voltage sag under such heavy loads. So in the end the VTC6 even at 4.1V will probably last longer until 3V than the GA would. Of course you can safely use the VTC6 at anything below 100% at 4.2V
